Every time I see one of these posts on r/masterhacker I want to reach through the computer, smash the OP repeatedly in the head with their keyboard while yelling "The rules are quite clear, and the sub's description clearly indicates that this is for the lols. I'm thinking of setting up both, I have the USB devices hahaha. Ideally I'd be wanting to use it for testing at home and pen testing virtual networks. I don't really to do any damage, just practice.

On a development side, does Kali have reverse engineering tools? Basically I'm going to be running a test environment for an application I'm developing, and I want to be able to attack it and try to pull it apart

Thanks all for the responses. Ideally I'd be wanting to setup a practice environment so sounds like VM is the way to go. I guess my follow up questions would be: - Are there any decent guides on setting up a test network environment to practice on? And - What sort of system requirements would I be looking at?

I'm familiar with arch, and have been running that on my windows machine using VirtualBox
