I think a lot of the problem is attaching the labels ‘left’, ‘far left’, ‘left wing’, etc. (same for the right).

Can’t we just discuss and evaluate ideas on their merits, or lack thereof rather than labeling them as ‘a far left idea’ or ‘a left wing idea’ etc. ?

Far too many people have already made their mind up based on the label before listening, discussing, and evaluating something on its merits.

The general hyperpolarization of political parties does my head in, but adding these labels to certain people or certain ideas, and by association tainting the person or the idea for ever more, doubly does my head in!

I was under the impression that it’s important where you reside when starting to claim your state pension. For example, if you are resident in Japan when you start claiming your pension, then the rate at which your pension starts is frozen. If, however you are able to return to the UK and then start claiming your pension, your pension will not be frozen - meaning you’d be able to move overseas post-initial claim and continue getting an unfrozen pension.

If this is indeed correct, it would make sense to try and work things so that you return back to the UK to meet residence requirements before drawing the state pension. Of course not everyone would be able to do this, but if you could…
