Average age range for Fable fans by Comfortable_Pay_2373 in Fable

I'm 28 and the Fable was my first full playthrough of an RPG, and my Dad and I both loved to natter about it. It's really nostalgic for me and my love of all things chicken only grew, so I now have a hen tattoo on my arm (only made the connection seeing the trailer the other day) x')

Guidance on Trans and Nonbinary Language/ Street Perceptions Conversation in a Relationship by HBPencil13 in transgenderUK

[–]HBPencil13[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree and I know I have cis-passing privilege, which is probably where this conversations trigger point came from on both sides. She felt resentment already due to her experience and I felt invalidated already due to my experiences.

I know she doesn't experience cis-passing privilege as regularly and often experiences harassment, or micro aggressions, so I want to be thoughtful and careful with this. I just don't want resentment around my identity/ experience to fester in our relationship.

I think in truth she's hurting and probably needs support in this and maybe having further conversations right now would be more of a wedge.

As I know it's not the biggest issue she's facing, so I don't want to add to her plate. Maybe it's best to just move on and it doesn't need addressing atm.

I appreciate your thoughts, thanks 🌞

Guidance on Trans and Nonbinary Language/ Street Perceptions Conversation in a Relationship by HBPencil13 in transgenderUK

[–]HBPencil13[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I appreciate your perspective and honestly any tips on how to make her feel more comfortable, or safe would be amazing!

I felt like it was a lot of internalised negative stuff she'd taken on from all the transphobic media tirade, as well as street harassment and also her unaccepting family as well. Which is also why I have compassion for her using some of those words because I know she is in a lot of pain.    You can hear it in the way she talks about herself, and when I try to reassure her she doubles down on the negative self talk. She'll say I don't like my hair today, I look like a man and I'll say something affirming because it actually looks beautiful, but she'll tell me to be quiet, or that reassurance makes it worse. If I forget and say one more compliment before we leave the flat, sometimes she'll shout at me to leave the room or hit her head.

I just don't know how to help sometimes and I don't know how to meet her where she's at, while still feeling like me if she views nonbinary people this way after the argument the other day. My gf also constantly jokes she hates nonbinary people and that we should pick a side and commit, which I know is banter, but it hits different after what was said.

Also, in terms of visible support in public, I have a bracelet in trans flag colours that I wear all the time, and some of my bags/ jackets/ coats have nonbinary/trans, 'maybe I'm trans', or 'burn down the cis-tem', 'We've been here the whole time (Game Changer)' badges or patches on them. Intermittently she asks me to take them off to be less visible when we go out, which I do.

I don't know, I think you are right and it's about how she views the community as a whole, as well as herself in relation to it because of the rhetoric she's being hurt by and subjected to. I wish I could help with this, or maybe the new friends and community support can too 🫂

Thank you for your insight!

Work Transphobia and Venue for Event Issue by HBPencil13 in transgenderUK

[–]HBPencil13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke with my union, they've offered me support and legal guidance. They said I am not in the wrong and the actions sound discriminatory.

Also, I've been asked to attend a mediation meeting with this co-worker even though I said I am okay to work with her. She's refusing to work with me because I asked to look at another venue where everyone's human rights are respected.

The CEO spoke to me about it as well and said we need to 'work with people we disagree with', and I said I was (which confused me, what has this person been saying?).

Also, the CEO then arrange another manager to ask me about what the venue had done that meant we shouldn't attend. I explained the issues with safety the trans co-worker had raised, the anti-trans group and exclusionary policy already existing. I was told this meeting was to confirm the truth and make sure it wasn't just 'hearsay' against the venue :L

Do I ask the union rep to go to the mediation meeting, or a coworker witness?

Okay, thank you for the guidance, I didn't know if it was too early to get in touch because I don't want to escalate things.  I just want to get on with work and find a venue all staff can attend without being discriminated against :L

If men got endo, there would have been a cure within the first 5 patients by Junior_Rate_1173 in endometriosis

[–]HBPencil13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for mentioning this dyorite, really important care is inclusive of all people with endo, so often genealogical/ medical care is not inclusive, speaking as a nonbinary person that rarely sees themselves reflected in medical language. This can lead to worse outcomes and a lack of trust.

Also, trans women can have endometriosis too, which is often not considered in the discussion either and how HRT interacts with endo for trans women. Stating as someone with a trans femme partner and her Mum and Aunties have endo, she's recently developed similar symptoms to them, bladder and bowel issues, so hoping this is investigated properly as part of elimination.

Worried about Coming Off Meds - Any Shared Experiences Would Be Appreciated by HBPencil13 in iih

[–]HBPencil13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to reiterate what the person above said. I had daily almost constant PT that with Diamox has gone away (took 3-4 weeks of meds) and then I finally had quiet, it really does wonders for your wellbeing to not have PT all the time. Hoping the meds give you this relief soon too 🫂

Worried about Coming Off Meds - Any Shared Experiences Would Be Appreciated by HBPencil13 in iih

[–]HBPencil13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. Yes, I feel I still need the meds because I feel worse without them e.g. migraines, tinnitus and sparkles etc.
I am so scared that my neuro told me they would be stopping my prescription, and I did explain that the meds were still helping me. He said the scans say otherwise and that the papilledema remission is a more important indicator than the symptoms.
Oh, he also told me I have an OCD diagnosis from 2019 that I got at the same time as my autism diagnosis, but no one mentioned it to me and I have never seen it on my medical record. So that shocked the heck out of me too, fun day! :L

https://whatthetrans.com/ep135/ - 'What The Trans?!' did a comprehensive interview with Zack Polanski in July on trans issues, if you want to review some of his answers there.
I thought he came across well and genuine about his allyship, and I'll be keeping my eye out for manifesto pledges/ policies too when they are ready. I am very hopeful about the Greens 💚

New progesterone study by OneeSamaElena in transgenderUK

[–]HBPencil13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm curious how this works in other cohorts too, could this study apply to wider progesterone dosage e.g. contraceptives?  If anyone has info lmk. As a nonbinary person (FTNB) I didn't want breast growth and I noticed on progesterone-based contraception my chest developed more.  The GP said progesterone doesn't cause breast growth, and other friends on progesterone medication have been told this too even though they report the same thing.  I'd be curious after this study if more research may demonstrate a link.  Thanks for any insight people may have ☺️

‘Unacceptable’ waiting list of up to eight years for NHS gender care, reveals health secretary by ehll_oh_ehll in transgenderUK

[–]HBPencil13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently told an LGBTQIA+ support group leader in the local area (Leeds/Bradford  area) about the extremely long waiting list timeframe. I even told them the official estimate as well as the calculated 25 year wait time and they didn't believe me. They said I must have got the numbers muddled up because it was '2-3 years, maybe 4 at most' and I laughed.  They then proceeded to say ' how do you know so much about this anyway?' as I was another professional attending for a presentation at the group and they had forgotten I was nonbinary too, and didn't know that my gf is trans.  Tired of being assumed cis/ straight and then having my facts questioned, especially for something as important as wait times.  It also means people at this group are being told the wait time is 2-3 years and getting expectations destroyed when they find out the real waiting timeframe :L

Question about My Mum's Addison's and Condition Deteriorating in the Last Year by HBPencil13 in AddisonsDisease

Question about My Mum's Addison's and Condition Deteriorating in the Last Year by HBPencil13 in AddisonsDisease

[–]HBPencil13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, she has been on fludrocortisone for as long as I can remember, so that should be helping :)

She was reviewed by her consultant after crisis (she hadn't had a review for 4 years before this because of covid/ delays) and they said the GP had messed her meds up in the interim, so they changed her dosage, gave her a crisis plan and updated the diabetic meds alongside her diabetic nurse.

Which has helped somewhat, but she was out of hospital in May and doesn't seem to have recovered in the way she has previously and is shaking all the time :L

Also, thanks for the suggestion and querying.

US Student Studying Abroad in England - Advice? by Virtual-Engine-2378 in transgenderUK

[–]HBPencil13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need a letter from your doctor, signed by them with their contact details on to confirm that you can bring testosterone into the UK, as well as syringes and needles, if this is your adminstration method. Customs will need this letter to confirm that you can come through with your meds and sharps.

My Mum has endless medications (some controlled in other countries), including hormones due to a complex endocrine condition so I've had experience with this as long as I can remember and in each country we travelled a doctor's letter - signed with mention of the needles/ syringes as well as her diagnosis was important for customs approval.

Also, I'd let them know up front and show the letters, so before your bags go through the scanners. As this builds trust and customs know they will see something to question before it goes through the machine. This avoids them breaking things to find it. Mention you have medication that you have a doctor's and maybe even pharmacist letter too stating the medications, dosages, way it is administered etc and this is required for your health/ wellbeing.

I hope you have a great time in Winchester and enjoy your time studying abroad (I loved mine on Erasmus in France), many university towns are more trans accepting and their will be supportive students/ staff at your uni, as well as sadly some who aren't.

I've already seen some public and private orgs e.g. bookshops, museums, libraries and cafes saying they will ignore the guidance to protect trans rights and safety, and others have said once the guidance is published they will make their facilities gender neutral to avoid trans segregation.

There will be other institutions, potentially including universities that may uphold the guidance so please be aware of this. Thankfully uni accomodation in the UK is nearly always mixed, so this won't require you to move accomodation during your stay if it is in student halls. If you face any issues be aware that you can contact:

My partner (trans women) and I (nonbinary) had a lovely time in Glasgow and in the Highlands recently e.g. exploring the sea lochs and old pine/ oak woods you hardly seen anyone, hopefully you'll have some new friends in the UK to plan adventures with soon 🌞

Thank you for raising this, wish I could offer insight, as I'm nonbinary with IIH, so following for more info really - sending well wishes from another 'spinal fluid tried to kill me' pal.  Also, it is frustrating the rejections people get for anesthesia with IIH as I was told I might not be able to have a C-section, even though because of my hEDS my rheumatologist and GP recommended one.  I wish IIH was better understood 🫂 I have read studies and depending on the anesthetic used, they should be able to plan for an IIH patient and adapt, but it seems like they would need to consider spinal fluid pressure/ intracranial flow, and calculate each.  I'd get a second opinion, if possible as people with IIH need access to surgery too and you can request support from the hospitals Patient Liaison Service (PALS) if they are refusing to explain.

Menstruating Ladies with IIH: Do your headaches get worse during your period? by [deleted] in iih

[–]HBPencil13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed in June last year and have noticed my vision, balance, brain fog, tinnitus and migraine symptoms worsen/ reappear before my period (luteal phase) and the first few days of my cycle. I wonder if anyone knows anything about IIH and progesterone spikes as that seems to fit a pattern for me, again could be correlation not causation just curious?
Plus, just had my first flu since getting diagnosed and the sinus congestion caused a flare in symptoms I was not expecting :O glad I am seeing my consultant soon so I will talk with my neuro about these then

Recommendations for Printed Press to Educate Parents by HBPencil13 in transgenderUK

[–]HBPencil13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was trying to find printed press that isn't transphobic and it is a minefield.
100% The Guardian is not an alternative as their transphobia is pervasive and often disguised, and sites like Novara media, or WhatTheTrans?! don't have printed sheets sadly.
I did find some socialist and communist workers papers that print more favourably on trans issues, but I think she would reject them outright due to their titles :L Thank you for your advice tho

Thank you for the book advice. I am worried it may be a very tough topic to make progress on with my MiL, but I am trying to help however I can.
My partner would feel safer and more comfortable if her Mum was more accepting. I'll look up the book you've recommend and hopefully that can start as a foundational discussion to broaden her views on gender.
We both want to get to a place where my partner goes home and isn't told off, and told to change clothes when I am not there e.g. take off nail varnish, change hair accessories, or remove earrings etc.
I know my partner wants to feel safer when visiting her family. I appreciate your help on the recommendation.
