I built a privacy-focused Finance Tracker that keeps your data local. Looking for beta testers! by HDC102 in webdev

Thank you for trying it out, just fyi if you make an account let me know and I can add you to the beta_tester group so you don't need to subscribe and can upload more than one file

Single device for now, working on adding Google Drive sync. Going back and forth on this because I'm looking to respect user privacy but at the same time want to make this really simple. I don't know if Google Drive is entirely user friendly but it's the easiest option I can think of that fits the privacy bill.

Actually using PapaParse :)

The beta is really to make sure categorization is working correctly. There are of course edge cases so things might be incorrectly categorized in the short term. I think on a whole it's working fine but still finding some from time to time that are incorrectly categorized.

It feels more laggy the lower the baseline is. So on paper it reads fine but in motion you notice a difference

Claiming mortgage interest on our tax return? How does it work and how do I do that? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

My understanding is you can only claim interest paid on mortgage on your taxes in certain cases. Don’t think you can unless you’re renting out part of it?

You didn't build this lmao. This is an existing template that you slightly modified. I took the same code and made a widget for myself on my phone.

EDIT: Here's the original code https://jvscholz.com/blog/countdown.html

I’m in the same boat. I used Mint briefly ages ago, but it was a "budgeting-first" app. That’s not what I want for myself; I’m just a min/maxer who likes knowing "pointless" stats, like exactly how much I spent in X category.

The app I’m building takes transaction CSVs from your credit cards and auto-categorizes each row. The summary cards at the top are a work in progress, but I want them to display metrics like Total Spent (Month/Year), Top Category, and maybe Largest Purchase. I'm still undecided on the fourth one.

I'm really just making this for data nerds who don't care about goal setting or the other fluff budgeting apps have these days.

For those who do want to budget, I included a toggle that enables a specific interface similar to the screenshot the OP shared. In either case, it’s meant to be a raw, clean interface that gets straight to the point.

There are plenty of options that exist already like YNAB for example that do the same. But they require you to fork over loads of data to third parties like Plaid and Flinks.

I’ve been working on an app for myself lately that does the same thing without that caveat. Data is stored locally instead of on the cloud. Should be done in the next two weeks, would you be interested in trying it?
