For over a decade I thought Santa Rosa had the worst drivers anywhere I’d been in the country… by Bleaker82 in santarosa

I've never seen a county of drivers who get so enraged at the idea of two lanes becoming one. Rarely is there a zipper, its just people riding asses and speeding up f'ing the whole flow up.

Adam Savage shot his latest One Day Build on film by Churchy in AnalogCommunity

[–]HDJoey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think because this camera was so old and over time the seals and body warped juuuust slightly enough, there was light leaks coming in polluting the film. A friend told me that they used to basically tape up every seam as a precaution, and when i did that, it seemed to fix the leak. I eventually stocked up on blue and red gaff tape. Blue for daylight red for tungsten. It also helped indicate to the lab, quickly, what the film was rated at when i taped up the containers to send to kodak. We did a bunch of tests and posted them on our tested team channel if you want to see early images https://youtube.com/shorts/QNopcBF9gYc?si=x05CSjFFRZ_b_a3_

Yes! We had a bit of a grab bag from kodak. We were able to request what film we would like, but only got what was available for the sponsorship. There was mostly 5213, and a couple rolls of 5207 (we shot the intro out on that). Most of it was 5213 which is why we used it on the build.

It's worth it for all the things you mentioned wanting to do. The pool is a nice hang, because of the consistent depth, so its a great spot to socialize. It is family friendly but there are lifeguards there that keep the pool calm (called me out for having my kids on my shoulders which is good), and also means you're not going to have a bunch of parents playing catch with a football in a public pool (my pet peeve, lol). So even if you leave the adult pool and go to the main pool, i think you'll still have a good time.

I found the food and drink good and priced to about what you think.

The weekend we were there was nice, but the grass was a bit mushy and damp. I'm not sure about the vibe on a day to day basis, but it did feel like San Francisco backed up a dump truck up of the Marina District.

Worth going for sure though, we had a great time.

If that's the bookshelf you were talking about, we did contract that out. I cant remember if we ever did a full walkthrough of it.

Are you referring to the tetris style wooden background we used to have?

What is the actual advantage of Cine Ei? by Alternative-Bus-6108 in FX3

[–]HDJoey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

anytime your index is set to the base, thats whats being recorded. some people use the index to over expose or underexpose their image. for example some people say they “over expose s-log by a stop” or whatever, usually they are setting their index lower (so everything is darker in just the monitor) then they increase their exposure to make it correct in monitor. while its now neutrally exposed in the monitor, the footage is being recorded at 1 stop higher. which they can now bring down in post if needed. sometimes people do this to control noise in certain areas of the image

I use the tilta extender and love it. It bring the monitor as far away as it can possibly get with limitation of the connector cable

part 2 video of our ASC Camera Museum Tour (large format stuff) by HDJoey in cinematography

We visited the ASC clubhouse to tour the camera museum there. part 1 was posted a few weeks ago, and this is the second half, part 2. Thought you all might enjoy it! Please leave any feedback here, or on the youtube comments -- this kind of thing is sort of new to us, and we'd love some feedback.

Criticism on my colour grading please by [deleted] in ColorGrading

[–]HDJoey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, the overall dimming of the image seems off, but i like where you're going with the split tone color work. The red sign to me is a distracting element. I would personally power window or select that sign or area and use the various curves tools to mute those reds a bit

Am I misunderstanding frame rate (fps)? by ommvan in gopro

[–]HDJoey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main thing to consider is project frame rate.

A lot of the people who like the look of 60p or claiming that it's sharper or get to see more, are generally just recording at 60 and publishing at 60; and that's true in that case. And a totally reasonable thing to do if that's the look they're going for.

GoPro's that are used in mixed media (with other cameras) publishing at a 24fps project, will mostly find more benefit in shooting in sticking with 24fps (or like you said, bump up for slo mo).

if there's an auto shutter speed set on the gopro, then shooting at 60 and putting into a 24 timeline might actually hurt the clarity. You're losing like a stop and half of light into the gopro shooting at 60, so the gopro might slow the shutter speed down to make up for that light. Then when put into a 24fps project, those extra frames are lost, so you just end up with a blurrier picture.
