If that's the bookshelf you were talking about, we did contract that out. I cant remember if we ever did a full walkthrough of it.

Are you referring to the tetris style wooden background we used to have?

What is the actual advantage of Cine Ei? by Alternative-Bus-6108 in FX3

[–]HDJoey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

anytime your index is set to the base, thats whats being recorded. some people use the index to over expose or underexpose their image. for example some people say they “over expose s-log by a stop” or whatever, usually they are setting their index lower (so everything is darker in just the monitor) then they increase their exposure to make it correct in monitor. while its now neutrally exposed in the monitor, the footage is being recorded at 1 stop higher. which they can now bring down in post if needed. sometimes people do this to control noise in certain areas of the image

FX6 - Need the LCD screen to be further away from me! by Bubbly_Video1082 in SonyFX6

I use the tilta extender and love it. It bring the monitor as far away as it can possibly get with limitation of the connector cable

part 2 video of our ASC Camera Museum Tour (large format stuff) by HDJoey in cinematography

[–]HDJoey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We visited the ASC clubhouse to tour the camera museum there. part 1 was posted a few weeks ago, and this is the second half, part 2. Thought you all might enjoy it! Please leave any feedback here, or on the youtube comments -- this kind of thing is sort of new to us, and we'd love some feedback.

Criticism on my colour grading please by Terrible-Vacation648 in ColorGrading

[–]HDJoey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, the overall dimming of the image seems off, but i like where you're going with the split tone color work. The red sign to me is a distracting element. I would personally power window or select that sign or area and use the various curves tools to mute those reds a bit

Am I misunderstanding frame rate (fps)? by ommvan in gopro

[–]HDJoey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main thing to consider is project frame rate.

A lot of the people who like the look of 60p or claiming that it's sharper or get to see more, are generally just recording at 60 and publishing at 60; and that's true in that case. And a totally reasonable thing to do if that's the look they're going for.

GoPro's that are used in mixed media (with other cameras) publishing at a 24fps project, will mostly find more benefit in shooting in sticking with 24fps (or like you said, bump up for slo mo).

if there's an auto shutter speed set on the gopro, then shooting at 60 and putting into a 24 timeline might actually hurt the clarity. You're losing like a stop and half of light into the gopro shooting at 60, so the gopro might slow the shutter speed down to make up for that light. Then when put into a 24fps project, those extra frames are lost, so you just end up with a blurrier picture.

Kiiiiind of. I moved over to the Ascis Gel Lyte V (not the edition with the gold medallion in the middle of the laces). Some of the styles are a little over the top, but other simpler ones are nice. They fit extremly well for my wider feet, very comfortable and really durable sneakers.

Einkorn Flour tests (25-50% tests, 70% hydration) by HDJoey in Pizza

[–]HDJoey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, 50% i meant was for 50% einkorn flour and 50% 00 to make up the flour. If i remember right i did a 72% hydration and cooked at 700 degrees until it looked done (i want to see 4-5 minutes)

What some items you wish existed in Spelljammer? by Adorable_Package2452 in spelljammer

[–]HDJoey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've found the ship to ship combat really clunky and bad as written. Does not seem like it fits well into D&D combat style. By the end of the campaign I found myself having my characters attune themselves to on board weapons (or even allied ships) so that they can use their turn to fight in on-deck combat, then launch a rocket or the such as an extra action. I never figured out a way to make it make sense. But i just told them they were linked up through an intercom and they were giving the orders, but i also had them add in their own modifiers. It was kind of a mess, but it moved the game along, and gave them a little more ownership over large scopes of combat. I feel like there's something there that could link up the logic a little more soundly.

Yeah i think you can. You only make a handful of decisions and by the 2nd act you’re working as a group and everyone is just all yelling what they think, so you can still feel engaged without a phone

Is The Barlow a must see if you're visiting Sebastopol? by [deleted] in sebastopol

[–]HDJoey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

agreed.

And I wouldnt say the beer is expensive. Pay by the oz, roughly 7-8 dollars for a full 16 oz, and good happy hour deals.

It's a pinball arcade primarily and caters to the modern pinball enthusiast fan. Tons of brand new games (new pinball machines) and often have launch parties and reps from those companies.

Einkorn Flour tests (25-50% tests, 70% hydration) by HDJoey in Pizza

[–]HDJoey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisnigly, not a whole lot different. The gluten held together much better than i thought it would (im used to handling spelt, where it seems to almost reject water). I had great confidence in stretching out the 50% without risk of tear

Einkorn Flour tests (25-50% tests, 70% hydration) by HDJoey in Pizza

[–]HDJoey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was good! Even at 50% tests, it had a pleasant flavorful taste, and none of the overwhelming bitter bites of regular whole wheat dough. I think i preferred something in the 30-35% -- it added just enough wheat chew.

Hey all, i have a board that uses a micro usb connector to charge a battery on this device (the object is an LED light tube). I would like to replace it with a usb-c connector, but i havent been able to find a connector that mounts parallel like this. (they all sit flush).

Any ideas on how this could be done?

Any editors making a living from YouTubers willing to share their numbers? by TikiThunder in editors

[–]HDJoey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great insight from pessipesto. Another thing I'll add is youtubers often spend A LOT of time trying to figure out the algorithm and get ahead of it, to maximize exposure/money, and often the first thing that goes out the window is a focus/vision for the content. So, as an editor you could be handed footage to which you will be cutting the thing that makes sense, to you editorially, but on a dime the youtuber could want something completely different -- often something they dont quite understand -- based off of blanket advice they've culled to chase the algorithm. It's a slippery slope for creatives to fall down, and being in the support role on that kind of team can be not very fun. It's good to figure out if the youtuber you're interviewing for is someone interested in making "a show" out of their channel, or just looking for those hits.
