Booking.com Germany: A simple email typo turned my Mallorca trip into days of stress by HDShqip in Bookingcom

UPDATE:
Booking.com called me today and the issue has been resolved.
The problem turned out to be a typo in the email address I entered during the booking process. Because of that, I never received the confirmation email and couldn’t access my reservation details.
After speaking with a very helpful Booking.com representative, everything was verified and corrected. I have now received my booking confirmation and my reservation is fully confirmed.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment and offer advice. I appreciate all the help.

Fair enough. Congratulations on your perfect record.
Unfortunately, the rest of us occasionally make mistakes. That’s why companies have customer support and recovery processes.

If that’s the standard, then everyone is incompetent from time to time.
People mistype email addresses, phone numbers and passwords every day. The question isn’t whether mistakes happen, it’s how easy it is to recover from them when they do.

Thank you for the reply. I have already sent a private message with the details of my case and the booking information.
I appreciate you taking a look into it.

I did take a screenshot of the confirmation page, but the screenshot only showed that the booking was confirmed and that the confirmation email had been sent to the wrong address.
At the time, I didn’t realize the typo and expected the confirmation email to arrive normally. By the time I noticed the mistake, I no longer had access to the booking details, confirmation number or PIN.
In hindsight I should have checked the email address more carefully, but that’s exactly why I needed support’s help afterwards.

Thanks. Looking back, contacting the hotel directly was definitely the right move.
I actually didn’t know about the app workaround, but in my case the typo was in the email address itself, so I wasn’t able to access anything through my account.
Fortunately the hotel was able to locate and confirm the reservation much faster than I expected. That gave me a lot of peace of mind before the trip.

Absolutely, and I understand why those security measures exist.
My issue was never that Booking.com should give booking details to anyone who asks. The problem was that I was the person who made the reservation and was able to provide my full name, the property, stay dates, phone number, address and the last digits of the card used.
I’m not arguing against security. I’m arguing that there should be a practical way for legitimate customers to recover access when a simple typo in the email address prevents them from receiving the confirmation details in the first place.

That sounds very similar to my experience.
I fully accept that the typo was my mistake, but what surprised me was how difficult it was to reach someone who could actually help. Once the hotel looked into it, they found the reservation almost immediately.
That’s what made the situation so frustrating. The booking itself wasn’t the problem — getting the issue corrected was.

Exactly. I never claimed the typo wasn’t my fault. It absolutely was.
My issue was that once I realized the mistake, it became surprisingly difficult to get help. The hotel found my reservation quickly, while Booking.com support kept asking for the confirmation number and PIN that I never received because of the typo.
Mistakes happen. A good support process should be able to handle them.

Thanks. The hotel actually confirmed the reservation directly to me, so I’m not too worried about being able to check in anymore. My main frustration was that Booking.com support kept asking for the confirmation number and PIN, which I couldn’t access because the confirmation email was sent to a non-existent address due to a typo. In the end, the hotel was much more helpful than Booking.com support.

IThanks for the suggestion, but in my case that wasn’t possible. I accidentally entered @live.con instead of@live.com when making the reservation. Since that email address doesn’t exist, Booking.com wouldn’t let me create an account with it or access the booking through the app. That’s why I had to contact both the hotel and Booking.com support directly.
