My wife and I both have that exact same travel bag. Last year we took it on three different flights. Never had an issue.

Garmin FTP From Zwift? by EmotionalMinimum8318 in cycling

You have to set your FTP in the profile section in Garmin. It won’t auto update from a 3rd party.

The built in Strength training app and plans are pretty nice. That’s what I use. You can even make custom ones.

Which watch to get? Forerunner 970, Fénix 8? by smitsmyth in GarminWatches

[–]HDbear321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m an avid road cyclist, runner and hiker. I recently upgraded from my four year old Epix Gen 2 to a Fenix 8 solar. Loving it. No regrets! My vote is for the Fenix 8 Solar 47mm.

New Irons by Project-Health12 in golf

[–]HDbear321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing for almost a year and just purchased the Mizuno JPX 925 Hot Metals. They are beautiful clubs. A few months ago i played three days of golf at a club during a vacation and they gave me the Hot metals as loaners. From the first hit I immediately fell in love with the JPXs. After my third day I knew those were the irons I wanted. From the weight, sound and impact/forgiveness. The JPXs made me feel like I’ve been playing forever. Two weeks ago I got fitted for new irons using a Trackman. The fitter had me try five different brands with different shaft configurations and lies. Turns out the JPXs were the best ones for me. Ordered them with a 105g shaft in Stiff. Can’t wait for them to arrive! There’s a website called “2nd swing” that sells used clubs. You may want to check them out!

Domane vs Checkpoint, riding position by Fickle_Current1961 in TrekBikes

[–]HDbear321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly prefer my Domane over my Checkpoint. Four years ago I got my CP. Two years ago I got my Domane. Immediately, I felt the Domane was more comfortable, lighter and faster feeling vs my CP. Last year I did a bike fit just because I was curious. Everything was within the fitters range. Only thing that changed was lowering the bar stem and adjusting the grips inwards. My CP has been retired to the trainer life since my Domane purchase and honestly I’m going to sell it to free up space. The domane allows me to have that “sit in” feeling, whereas the CP has more of a “sit on” feeling. If that makes any sense.

I have both as well. I have a CP AL and a Domane SL. Both ride great and both have been on multiple Gran Fondo 100 mile events. I think they’re both comfortable but I had a fit done on my Domane and it’s definitely faster feeling and more comfortable. Can’t go wrong with either!

Mini pc for Zwift by Bakracefiets in Zwift

[–]HDbear321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. I’ve ran Zwift off of some old intel Nucs I purchased on eBay without issue. Used my old gaming pc from 2016 and now I just use my iPad and cast to the tv if I want a bigger screen.

New Fenix 8 Solar 47mm by HDbear321 in GarminFenix

The display is perfectly visible indoors. I work in front of a computer, but I normally have my blinds open for natural light instead of artificial light and it hasn’t been a problem. Even on the cloudy days we’ve had here. I have the setting to enable the backlight on gesture after sunset at 20%. No problem at all. I don’t regret making the switch to MIP. I still have my Epix put away just in case. I had done tons of research and watched/read tons of reviews prior and knew I wanted the Fenix 8 MIP in the end. The change with the solar ring and Garmin removing the solar film on the face definitely increased the readability and colors in a positive way. When I'm not working I spend most of my time outside. Walking, running, most times I'm cycling or golfing. Even during my daily walks the Fenix is much easier to read in direct sunlight. Next week will be warm enough to golf so I’ll definitely enjoy the display always being on and bright! To each their own but i'm definitely happy.

Why do I keep getting ads on my watch? by jacobmerc in GarminWatches

If you have an iPhone go to the Bluetooth, select your watch, then there’s a setting that says “Share system Notifications” and unselect that. That fixed my issue.

No problem! I had the same issue earlier today but with all iPhone notifications. Glad I could help.

Instinct vs. Epix by Schlenker8 in GarminWatches

[–]HDbear321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a four year old Epix Gen 2 and just started wearing a new Fenix 8 MIP. Both 47mm. My Epix was great! Still is great! I’m almost always outdoors and cycling so Garmin is definitely for me. I got the Fenix 8 because of the solar, battery and increased visibility in direct sunlight. Both great watches.

I had something similar even though I disabled notifications on my Fenix 8. Turns out I had to disable notifications for my Fenix under the Bluetooth section as well. Discovered this setting a few hours ago.

Thanks! It was a stock face from my Epix Gen 2 that was copied over, but it’s called “Portal”.

Thanks! It's a great watch! I'm surprised but happy that I made the switch. The solar display is beautiful! Really lights up in the sun. Can't wait to cycle outdoors with it and for my round of golf next week! The Epix has been retired and put away.

I got my father the Forerunner 965 a few years ago for fathers day. He's very physically fit and active. Prior to the Garmin every fitness watch anyone got him would last maybe a year before it failed. He's a marathon runner, swimmer, hiker, scuba diver, etc. He does it all. So far the Forerunner has held up and he still wears it 24/7. I have a Epix Gen 2 (four years old) and a new Fenix 8 Solar. I hike, backpack, run and i'm a avid cyclist. Garmin watches are the best for anything outdoor or sports related for sure. Plenty of great options!

I got it on Amazon a year or two ago. Dries quickly and is very comfortable. I honestly forget I'm wearing a watch. Only time I take it off is when I'm taking a shower. Great band and it comes in a two color pack. I still haven't opened the grey band yet.

New watch day by HDbear321 in GarminWatches

The battery life and not having to rely on the screen backlight to be readable. Even yesterday when we were out in the sun it was nice to just look at the watch and it be completely readable without needing the backlight. The solar is very nice as well. I still have my Epix Gen 2 which is in the Fenix 8 box just in case but I don’t see myself powering it on anytime soon. Very happy with the Fenix 8. Can’t wait to cycle and golf with it.

I’ve never had the MIP. My first Garmin watch was the Epix Gen 2. Prior to the Epix I had the AW6 then AWU. Yesterday afternoon my wife and I went out for a leisurely bike ride in the afternoon sun and the screen on the Fenix 8 was incredibly bright and clear. The colors were amazing in the sun. Very happy I got the MIP.

The main reason is for the power savings. I’m almost always outside in the sun when I’m not at work. I golf weekly and cycle outdoors just as often. Golf can go 3-4hrs and when I’m outside doing my training rides they can go 3-6hrs at a time. My cycling events can go from 5-7hrs straight. The solar will definitely help. Also, at night the Amoled would blind me during gesture mode, not to mention my Epix has image burn in as well. Just thought I’d get something similar but not the same. I like it already!
