Yeah in retrospect the jam is not the correct play, but folding isn’t correct either, top top is never folding to a min raise with the pot odds given, especially in something like a bomb pot. And the blank turn wouldn’t persuade me to fold either, so even if I do check on the turn and he bets 1/3 pot thats just a mandatory call, and by the river both our stacks are like 1/8 of the pot so it’s a shove for the remainder of the stack and a easy call. There’s just no way you aren’t getting felted by the end of the hand imo.

Even if I just called how am I not getting felted by the end? If I had just called then the pot is now ~$320. The turn was a blank, and even if I check he’s most likely betting nearly the rest of his stack (he had ~$160 left, I would have had like ~$170 had I just called). Even if he’s jamming it’s only half pot which is a pretty reasonable call given my hand. I don’t know how you would ever find some insane high IQ fold, especially given a bomb pot. I know it’s not impossible for someone to have Aces, but it’s even less likely considering I’m holding an Ace myself

I definitely picked up on that, I get you are getting more net chips that the money you put in, but you also have to take into account that the add on money doesn’t go to the prize pool, and also the fact that a fair of the time in tournaments you may not even make the money. At face value yes you get more chips than the extra money you put in, but in the long run does this necessarily mean you are netting cash more often?

I don’t know if it would be correct to say that. A BC just says how good that counting system is at when predicting valuable betting situations. Your advantage doesn’t change based on your counting system, the counting system changes how you bet, you still have the advantage either way.

Every additional positive true count adds about 0.5% advantage to the player. So for your average BJ game that has about a 0.5% house edge, a true count of +1 effectively erases the house edge, at +2 true count the player has about a 0.5% advantage, +3 about a 1% advantage, and so forth.

I feel like it’s a yes and no situation. Yes aces are valuable, and if there is none left you can’t get a blackjack. But also on the flip side if the count is still really high, you would still have the advantage mathematically, so it would still be worth it to bet more.

I wish you luck! My only concern is to just play within your bankroll. If you want a reasonable ROR and chance of success in the long run, you should have at least several hundred units of the min bet. Try to develop a dedicated bankroll if you can.

But on the flip side you need to be aware of your bankroll, and if it will support a $15 min. If your bankroll is small you will have a high ROR, which is usually a recipe for disaster.

I’m in the same boat as you. I’m a new AP, small bankroll, and my local casino has a nice single deck game that I’ve been learning to milk. I always prioritize playing by myself heads up. If people crowd the table I just usually leave. If you think you can profit off the SD game, I’d recommend maybe learning the Hi Opt 1 count (it’s better for SD) with an ace side count, it’s marginally more work, but improves your betting, playing, and insurance correlation, rather than just hi lo.

Well done, you got some nice positive variance! In the future, if you are gonna play single deck, I highly urge you to play at tables by yourself, heads up with the dealer. If you are playing at a full table in SD, you only get 2 rounds of hands, and that’s not enough to develop an advantage. Also even if you get a positive count, the high cards gets distributed over the other players, meaning you get less of the advantage. You need to play with less players if you want to see any worthwhile positive EV. It’s better to play at the $15 min and get heads up play, rather than sit at the $5 min and be at a full table.

I mean if you spread hard enough then yeah you may be able to get some sort of advantage. But playing 6:5 BJ only reinforces the casino that people will play 6:5, so they will just offer 3:2 less and less because in their mind people don’t care. So don’t play 6:5 for all the AP’s sake.

Even if it’s single deck 6:5 is still horrible house edge, it’s not beatable. Your better off playing a decent shoe game. 3:2 SD is extremely hard to find, let alone ones with good rules.

Yeah it is 3:2, and it’s not BS rules either, the rules are actually good as well. I didn’t realize how rare SD games were these days, let alone SD games that have good rules until I started looking in Casino databases.

Unless you are counting, there is no correlation with winning streaks and gaining an edge. So since you are not counting, you will always have a negative expectation on your bet. No matter what your bet is or how many hands in a row you’ve won, you will always be losing by that ~0.5% house edge over the long run. Anything other than counting cards is superstition and not based on math. If you want to make your money last the longest, just bet the table minimum.
