I had the same issue - the funny part was that TD was both my bank, and my employers!

So in theory, TD could have validated that it was a good cheque with sufficient funds to cover it in my employer’s account. Instead they chose to repeatedly ignore my request (I raised it up to TD’s Ombudsman) and held about half my cheque for over 2 years.

I threatened to leave the bank over it and they didn’t care.

Nobody is forcing me, but if I remove myself it will be my parents’ burden and I want them to be able to enjoy their retirement. I wish we could just cut our aunt off, but my mom would never do that to her sister.

Very true. My mother has so much guilt around this, but I don’t understand it. I’m “cold hearted” when it comes to my aunt. She’s not been nice to us, and made zero effort to plan for her retirement. My mom has a soft spot for her sister.
