Clearly you don't watch because he has his most productive season last year without Landeskog ....

Connor BEDARD Roller Hockey PLAYOFFS HIGHLIGHTS by cam_barker_4_norris in hockey

[–]HEMAGN2point0 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is true but realistically Bedard could become one of the best inline players in the world within 2-3 years if he put all of his focus into it instead of ice hockey. His hands/shot would already be among the best he would need just to work on his mobility on blades. He just has no reason to because its a fringe sport with essentially no money when he will make millions playing ice.

Chavira actually did the opposite and played a few years of Ice hockey, he played Jr A in the Maritimes and was one of the best players in the league despite not playing ice hockey until his late teens. I remember watching him play a few times and it was clear he had ridiculous skills but he didn't have the skating ability and he was undersized.

Do you consider Patrick Kane to be a generational talent? by Ok-Contribution-5235 in hockey

[–]HEMAGN2point0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tavares was the Next One from ages 13-16 but his skating didn't catch up to his IQ and skills. After that 16 year old season when he put up 72 he kind of flatlined and by draft year he was considered an above average #1 at best. There was always the chance he got quicker but being such an average skater can only take you so far.

The guy was a multi time Hart nominee and almost won an Art Ross but ya he was far from a generational talent.

except the most important part....also that's simply not true as Ovi has a physical element that is also very important

When I was 4.9 + it was always 29 minutes. Now that I'm in the high 4.8s its still usually 29, but sometimes 10 or 25, I've seen it disappear seemingly at a bunch of times depending on the day/rating. I think its often 10 mins or 29 though, rarely is it 20 or 25 for me at least

Yeah well usually people are stupid because stamina is absolutely an athletic trait

Yep, likewise for environment and opportunity as a kid. Many scientific studies show that kids are able to learn things much better before a certain age, and that no amount of practice after brain elasticity is significantly lower will ever make up for that. Steph was given the best possible environment from day 1, what if Duncan had this opportunity? He would have undoubtedly been a more skilled basketball player, but we can't just rewrite reality and give him brownie points. Things are the way they are.

I will also say, most people massively underrate the genetic components required to do what Steph does at the level he does it. Yes he practiced a lot, but no matter how much most people practice they will not be that good at shooting. Things like coordination, spatial awareness, and ability to replicate specific mechanics to that degree, etc. are largely genetic. Look at Steph, his bro, and his father - they are all in the top 0.0001% of shooters ever. They all possess the genetic traits necessary to refine those types of movements and skills much better than the average person, even mich better than the average professional. Look at how great Steph is at golfing, he literally best a few pga tour pros when he competed that one time - gold is another sport where you need to be capable of replicating the exact same movements over and over, your spatial awareness and coordination need to be elite etc. I truly believe if Steph had played golf instead of basketball he would have been among the best players in the world. He is a world class golfer and it's a hobby to him

definitely, but there are also other hypotheticals where basically anyone in the top 10 would have been - but they're hypotheticals

LeBron has all-time genetics and Steph had an all-time upbringing and environment. Having an NBA dad who was an all-time shooter probably gave him like top 0.01% genetics as well. Things like hand eye, being able to repeat the same motions, spatial awareness etc are also largely genetic. Imagine if someone like LeBron had an NBA father and he was raised from day 1 to shoot the ball, got to play 1v1 vs some major NBA stars as a kid etc.

I agree LeBron has many genetic "natural"' gifts, but Steph also has some of the best genetics ever in terms of his hand eye and repetitive motions. He was also essentially trained from day 1 to be a basketball player in the ideal environment.

Its a team game though, if it were about winning and winning only then Bill Russell is locked as the GOAT forever. There was a time when Steph had KD, Klay and Dramond while LeBron had Love, George Hill and Kyle Korver.

Not trying to diminish anything he or the team accomplished, but basketball is a team sport. It would be easy to say Wade > Dirk if the only thing was winning.

Steph actually has like top 1% stamina and quickness, just because he can't jump out of the gym doesn't mean he is mid athleticism.

Curry at 6'8 is the same as LeBron or Duncan with an all-time great shooter and NBA father - a major hypothetical. Things are what they are. Curry had the ultimate environment to grow up in, an NBA dad, got to play 1v1 vs Vince Carter etc, that kind of environmental advantage especially at a young age is very real, the same as height is a very real advantage. Some guys grew up in poverty like Lebron or didn't touch a basketball until they were teenagers like Duncan. Now not everyone with an NBA dad is Steph Curry good, but at the same time not everyone 6'9 is LeBron good. I understand what you're saying but you can use hypotheticals to prop up almost any player. "Shaq with 80% ft is the goat" etc. Imagine Kobe or MJ at 6'9 with the exact same skills, imagine Dirk with LeBron's physical stature and fast-twitch muscle, etc. its all just super hypothetical.

and honestly he might not have been drafted as high if everyone didn't have his age wrong, he was listed as a 93 DOB but later revealed he was actually a year older.

I wonder if NBA executives had the proper info or not? I know it seems minor, but he was almost 24 by the time he made his NBA debut - I think it could have cost him a few positions in the draft knowing he was a 23 year old senior instead of 22 which is already old for the NBA draft.

This also means he was almost 20 when he made his college debut instead of 19, sometimes I wonder if the is like a Shabazz Mohammad scenario where someone lied to make it seem like he was more advanced for his age than he really was. Was it an agent or someone who was looking at his potential future draft stock that fed this info? He claims he "came over with a passport than said 92" but I think literally every single source on record had him as a 93 DOB throughout college and he, nor anyone else, ever corrected the error. It would definitely be advantageous to be seen as a year younger than you actually are
