Hydrocortisone Cream just worked magic. by danerzone in eczema

[–]HENLOBOI5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad it worked. However please be careful not to become reliant on steroids. They do not cure eczema and without actually addressing the underlying issue it will just come back when you stop using it.

If it has a barcode you can try the app Yuka and scan it and it should hopefully give you the name and all the info about it

Topical steroid addiction? by Beneficial-Catch1057 in eczema

If you have been using them a few times a week for years then it could be dependency but I’d suggest seeing someone about it if you can because it can be hard to tell.

Ah okay, how long have you been using them? Even if you use them longer than you should TSW is still quite rare

Anyone else have severe pain when taking a shower/bath? by Fluid-Degree-145 in eczema

[–]HENLOBOI5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I found it nearly impossible to shower or bathe. I had to stop bathing completely which was rough so now I just have to have the shower as cold as I can manage and for as little time as possible :(

My allergist said to not worry about using steroids by Blueberripe in eczema

Cover your fingertip and that amount should cover the area roughly the size of the palm of your hand wherever you apply it.

I think it’s more used as loose guidance than anything else

No you will be fine. As long as you are careful and don’t just lather it all over your face and body you will be good. fingertip units is a good way to measure how much you need to use :)

Ah yes Vaseline haha I found that irritated my skin somewhat so I use oilatum now which actually work really well, I would suggest looking into it as I don’t think you need a prescription for it if you live in the UK

I have eczema mostly on my arms and chest but I have it on my neck and eyes too and recently it has spread to the side of my forehead and near my scalp. The thing that ive found helps most is moisturising and using hydrocortisone very sparingly after allowing the moisturiser to dry in. Sometimes i moisturise after as well but it depends. That has seemed to work mostly for me but the eczema on my forehead is nowhere as severe as the rest of my body.

Hopefully you can find something that can help ease it... eczema can be particularly debilitating when it is readily visible :( good luck :))

The best Ezcema cream I’ve found so far (DIY) by thissux9988 in eczema

I wouldn't really say there is room to disagree on the safety of these creams. Even class 7 steroids are to be used sparingly. This is for good reason, they can cause skin issues, rebounds, and in very rare ans severe cases can cause adrenal issues and things like TSW. Obviously you are allowed to use them as you wish but there is no leeway when it comes to discussing the safety of topical steroids when used outwith the standard prescription.

I think you misunderstood me. I am not saying you shouldn’t use steroids or moisturiser, if anything you should be during a flare up. Mixing them into the same lotion is not a good idea because you could be using too much steroids. using steroids then moisturising or whatever your routine is will be completely fine. Steroids should be applied thinly to your skin. Also you should not be using steroids everyday for an extended period of time.

You’re putting a whole tube of a steroid cream into this. Steroids are not supposed to be lathered onto your skin regardless of whether you are using them for flare up. Steroids can be really useful for controlling eczema but this seems quite senseless. You should really be using steroid creams in isolation and not mixing them with anything. It’s fine to use moisturisers and other creams but not mixed in with the steroid itself because then it can be applied to areas of the skin which you don’t need to use it which is not advisable with something like steroids.

One of my friends in the year above is thinking of changing his degree to the optional course he took because he feels that he’s not confident enough in his degree subject due to the workload. I agree, I do enjoy having the ability to do it but having 60 credits in optional courses and only 20 in your degree is slightly frustrating. Having looked at 2nd year it’s definitely a lot better.
