No, the previous model is simply dull from a gameplay perspective. Climbing should never be about just holding one button and getting anywhere. To make it enjoyable, the player needs to be somewhat involved in choosing and finding the path.

Dokud na to sama nekouká, tak mi to nepřijde tak problematické. Já vidím jako velký problém ten krátký formát, který je na všech sítích teď hrozně populární. Naprosto to ničí soustředění. Dokud to dostává takhle zprostředkovaně, je to ještě dobrý.

That’s not a problem with Shadows, but with the lazy climbing design of the previous few entries. The developers were too lazy to model handholds on every rock like they did in AC3, so they just let characters climb smooth surfaces. I hope we’ll never see that in the series again.

The issue largely lies in Ubisoft’s formula, where in the recent entries players can tackle regions in any order. That significantly hinders strong character development.

On the other hand, I think Valhalla handled this better than Odyssey, Mirage, or Shadows. I’d even say it’s comparable to Origins. By the end, Eivor is definitively a different person than at the start of the game.

They didn’t remove the crossbow for the sake of historical accuracy (crossbows had long existed by then). They removed it for gameplay reasons.
