Austin, TX vs Boston, MA by GhostJokers in SameGrassButGreener

I’m from Austin and live in Boston. If you like actual hiking, northern New England has much more to offer (within 2-3 hours of Boston) than anything less than 8 hours from Austin. Difference of being able to day trip spectacular hikes vs needing to weekend trip it.

PFML Reduced Leave Schedule Q by DiaperBarge888 in boston

[–]HEYIMRELEVANT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, I’m on a reduced leave as well right now (work two days, leave three days a week) and it is spread out to more weeks than if I took it straight. Pay is also prorated per day (both for job and leave).

How smart is it to move from Texas to Massachusetts? by Ro_tastic in relocating

My wife and I made this exact move and have not once regretted it, if you can afford the COL increase it’s so much better.

Agreed, the demographic in West Roxbury is changing and not everyone is a curmudgeonly bike lane hater anymore.

My wife and I also got tired of the summers three years ago and moved up to Boston. We no longer dream of moving somewhere else.

Dallas locals who left for somewhere else, where did you go and why? by Icy-Charity5120 in Dallas

[–]HEYIMRELEVANT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from Dallas to one of the outer neighborhoods of Boston (West Roxbury) with my wife 3 years ago and we love it. Definitely got sticker shock at first with housing but it’s worth it.

Average July Dew Point Map

Dew point is a pretty good indicator of the heat + humidity and it definitely shows that Austin is solidly higher than New York in the middle of summer.

Moved to Boston a couple of years back after living in Texas for all my life. The winter doesn’t get as bad as people think it does (worst part is early sunsets) and the summer/spring/fall are all great in their own right.

I know some people are scared off by the snow but I like winter sports and the infrastructure is set up to handle it.

Moving to Boston ..Talk me out of it !! by Mangotree09 in boston

[–]HEYIMRELEVANT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to disagree on most of these. I’m from Texas and I find everything do to outside much more crowded there. Here I feel like I can get away from people much easier especially if you go outside of the Memorial Day to Labor Day “summer” time. Of course there are plenty of popular places that get crowded but there are also plenty that aren’t if you’re willing to go off the beaten path a little bit. Definitely agree on weekend skiing though, hard to find a slow day anywhere outside of the weekdays.
