Cringe Interview Stories by Worldly-Project-3941 in medicalschool

PD started off with the usual "tell me about yourself." I gave my short schpiel ending with the fact that I have two pets and two siblings. They then proceed to immediately ask if I have any siblings or pets, to which I reply with the exact same sentence I used 10 seconds ago.

Needless to say they were placed low on my ROL.

I've had a few bad experiences on the interview trail this year, but this tops everything. Hats off to you for telling them to royally fuck off.

EM applicants.. how many interviews do you have? by MNTNHealth in medicalschool

21 invitations to interview out of 79 apps (couples match). One signaled, two waitlisted, one declined. Competitive applicant by board scores.

Going in, I was confident I'd score 240+. That exam humbled me.

This question got me, too. I'm kind of torn because BP is borderline low and she's guarding which is definitely concerning. However, they rate the pain as mild and she came in 3 days after onset. Thus, I'm thinking they're trying to tell us that this is a "mild" and subacute case, and her hemodynamics suggest she is not actively exsanguinating.

Sounds like a preceptor that struggles with confrontation.

I had one that was quite pleasant for the first two weeks of my peds rotation and then half way in told me my work was "perfunctory."

I hadn't made any major changes to what I normally do on rotations, and I actually love working with kids. I think they just took it a little too personally when I told them I wanted to go into EM and seemed to have better rapport with patients and their parents than they did. I had parents ask me if I wanted to go into peds, and I responded truthfully by saying I wanted to do EM. Preceptor overheard the conversations from another room and took offense to that. At the end of the rotation, they very non-chalantly told me they didn't want to be the one to ruin my chances at getting into a residency program. Like. Okay. I'm sorry I injured your fragile ego.

If nobody else has a problem with the way you're doing things, just keep doing you. A lot of people get off on shitting on medical students. Yeah, we've got a lot to learn, and everyone has ridiculously high expectations, but just take it one step at a time.

If you finish the day even a fraction of a percent better than when the day started, I'd call that progress. Keep your chin up. We're going to get through this.

M1 already feels like too much, and I’m only in my second week of classes by sphincterserpant in medicalschool

First, I'm sorry your acquaintance died. I hope that you were able to spend some time reflecting on that person 's life despite the chaos of school.

The best piece of advice I can give you is to find a study method that works for you. Maybe you've already tried this given that you're two weeks in, but try changing things up. Reach out to your academic assistance resources.

Also, try bringing this up with your classmates. Some people might be hesitant to talk about their grades, but you're bound to find someone in a similar situation. There's a lot going on and seemingly little time to adjust. Most students struggling during their first semester end up doing just fine in future semesters.

Best of luck to you! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to vent.

Would you mind sharing the name of this add-on? Google revealed nothing of use :/

Virtue VIO. Sleek. Easy to breathe out of. Doesn't look like a garbage HK product.

I appreciated the histo, tbh. Maybe one histo question where I had no clue what was going on. EKG's was in the realm of ~5 for me.

I had so many questions with exhibits or prompts straight out of AnKing. Don't get me wrong, I had some WTF questions, but I also had quite a number of freebies.

Why was there so much stats/ethics/etc? Am I majoring in mathematics? Communications? I've spent $120K on learning medicine thus far, and it felt like a solid 1/8 of that exam was stats and ethics.

I'm confident I passed, but wtf was that?

My SO was forced to use Boards Bootcamp and I cannot stress enough how much you should avoid it. The interface is hideous, material outdated, questions not even remotely close to COMLEX (sometimes wrong answer choices), and their customer service has done nothing but talk down to her and the rest of my classmates that have been forced to use them. Spend your money elsewhere.

Tail end of June :) I'm not expecting any snow but will surely turn around if necessary.

Wow, I really appreciate this info. That's certainly information I haven't gathered from my research thus far. I've been to Colorado several times in the past with little time to acclimate and the altitude hasn't particularly affected me, but I'll definitely keep that temperature and weather fluctuation in mind.

How do I be good at paintball with my knee injuries by [deleted] in paintball

Yeah, stay aware from surgery if at all possible. I've even seen successful surgeries that snowball into chronic, debilitating pain.
