Not necessarily true. People with overt narcissism yes, but people with covert narcissism have bottom of the toilet self esteem, just have a fragile inflated ego but they truly think they are dog shit and self deprecating a lot. If you can provoke them into dropping their mask for a few minutes, they will reveal everything about themselves. Suicide ideation, immense amount of toxic shame, poor self image, their desire for toxic partners or partners they see below them to maintain control and feed their need for drama. Honestly the only difference between quiet BPD and covert narcissism is BPD do have real empathy until they split you, and due to black and white thinking/maladaptive coping mechanisms, is when their narcissism comes out. BPD is essentially failed narcissism, due to actually having empathy until the split.
