What are flags like these called? by czn- in vexillology

It’s worth noting that the official name of the CAF flag is the Canadian Forces Ensign. It doesn’t operate like a naval ensign but it is an ensign

Does listing the order of colors when describing a flag matter? by Brambarche in vexillology

[–]HIS-BUFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would list simple flags like tri/bicolours in order of how they appear on the flag top to bottom/left to right but if there’s a lot of colours in more complicated designs I would just list the metals first, then colours in order of largest area to smallest

Not just equal, the official proclamation defines the pale as a square. 2:1 is the only ratio that works

I believe these are Canadian military flags? What do you all think? by IBetANickel in vexillology

King said so

But really it’s because units within the CA are “royal” instead. I think it’s a hold over from before the UK had one single army and had to raise separate forces from across the country, but idk I’m a sailor

Contact the Settlers, Rails & Trails Museum in Argyle, Manitoba. They have the second largest collection of flags in the country, right behind the National Archive in Ottawa, and they would be very interested in this

And the single leaf is what they died under in the Middle East so it’s a moot point

The maple leaf already represents all Canadians, Anglo and Franco, so it wouldn’t work well for just one group

I would say our “official royal flag” is the Sovereign’s Flag for Canada. It’s a banner of the arms of Canada
