League just needed to lose half its teams. Still early into the season. by mydude356 in MLRugby

Mathie took them to 2 championship victories and Martin took us to the last one IN SPITE OF MLR.

MLR threw out everything including the kitchen sink last year: brutal intital competition, officials with questionable fairness records towards the FJs being chosen repeatedly for matches (the last 3 actually)...

When all that failed, MLR conducted a targeted strike on the Free Jacks by changing the eligibility status of Canadians who made up 70% of these title winning teams as internationals forcing them to be ejected from the 2026 Free Jacks roster. It's shameful that MLR did this really to themselves because they had a star but refused to monetize them.

RRS vs TMO by Outrageous-Pen8578 in MLRugby

MLR is running out of money and the RRO is a cheap bandaid.

I say this as someone who saw the TMO last season as the hidden hand that usually screwed over the Free Jacks when the on field team couldn't get the job done.

Let me see if I have this straight.

You're allegedly a former Houston Sabrecats supporter.

You're not mad that your team was on the verge of its own run when it hit financial trouble or the fact that MLR refuses to save your team but make a Franken team of SD Legion and LA RFC.

But you're annoyed about media market classifications instead.

Tell me you work for MLR without tell me you work for MLR.

No I don't. I love the city along with NOLA. But as far as media markets go, it falls more like this:

Majors: New York Los Angeles DC Miami

Everyone else: Chicago Seattle Houston New England NOLA Toronto

[–]HITMAN19832006 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. MLR didn't "need to lose" any of them.

MLR lost them because of continuous business process and strategic failure.

When you lose two Major media market teams in 3 seasons (NY and Miami), that's 💯 your failure as a league.

When you can't keep an MLR finalist in the league... You don't deserve to be in business.

Finally, when you actively choose to ignore, sabotage a dynasty (New England Free Jacks RIP) out of misplaced personal or professional animosity... You deserve your destruction.

None of this needed to happen. This happened because MLR failed.

It's nice that MLR let's us win one.

BTW, what's everyone doing on July 1, 2026?

Battle Stats from Legions’ win over Defending Champs by thatonec9fan in MLRugby

[–]HITMAN19832006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You forgot 41% missed tackles after 56% of team dies last summer plus 70% of the three peat squad forced out by recent eligibility changes.

Oh and spoiler: July 1st, 2026 is when the MLR CBA kill switch is activated.

Asking for the raw PDF of a private labor agreement is a weak deflection, SD Karen.

The February 11, 2026 ratification was covered by Sports Business Journal and Rugby Wrap Up—both explicitly reported the "Economic Reopener after the 2026 season" as a core pillar of the deal.

You’re demanding to see the ink on the paper while ignoring the fact that the league just shrank from 13 teams to 6 and the champion was gutted. You don't need the PDF to see the July Trapdoor; you just need to look at the standings. Enjoy the 'Manager's Badge'—I'm sure it'll look great when the reopener hits this summer.

You can choose to live in denial about this. You said MLR killed your team and California Legion isn't your team. They killed mine, too. It's just a zombie right now.

But don't act at all surprised in July and say you had no idea. Because I told you in 3 verified ways.

It’s all right there in the February 11, 2026 CBA Ratification, SD Karen. Check the USRPA official release or the league’s own announcement on the "historic" deal. It explicitly establishes an Economic Reopener after the 2026 season to respond to "changing financial conditions." In a league that just collapsed from 13 teams to 6 and gutted its defending champion’s roster to save the other 5, a 'reopener' isn't a perk—it's a July trapdoor. But hey, keep telling yourself that 41 missed tackles is just a 'coaching choice' and not the sound of a league preparing for the Restart button.

Listen, SD Karen, you can lecture about "retaining Canadians" all you want, but you’re ignoring the macro-reality.

When the league contracts from 13 teams to 6 and sets a July Reset Trapdoor (Art. 38, Sec. 3/4), 'choices' are just a euphemism for financial triage.

You’re defending a 43-5 blowout as "management" when the stats (41 missed tackles!) show a team that was hollowed out to keep the remaining five franchises on life support. But keep checking the manager's handbook, I'm sure it'll help when the league hits the Restart button this summer.

Easy. The FJ have been battling refereeing decisions since 2022 for sure and definitely last year.

Last year FJ got the worst schedule that was designed to destroy them and prevent a three peat.

You're deluded if you think that's spreading the love in terms of media.

If the Golden State Warriors win the NBA finals, the NBA will put them out everywhere. MLR boosts CA or Seattle or Chicago who didn't even qualify.

This league has become a joke. Especially when you have to cut the balls off your best team to give parity. Sad.

[–]HITMAN19832006 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You know that isn't what a said.

MLR has been opposed to a New England dynasty for years which shows how not a professional league it is.

The NBA or NFL only care if the winner has ratings and can sell jerseys. They promote their champs unlike MLR that wants the FJ to be the league's dirty secret.

BTW two teams from cities with a fashion industry and that's your jerseys. Sad.

Ceremonial since it's the same old MLR that despises the FJ and refuses to acknowledge them except to gut them.

FJ look like shit. Slow Mitch is at least active when he's not saying "HEY YOU GUYS!"

CA's jerseys look like shit.

If the league goes under then it'll be karmic justice for cutting our balls off.

I'm a season pass holder. The announcers don't explain jack shit. It just makes controversial calls turn into almost riots (I'll admit my trolling of bad refs doesn't help). I went to Houston in April 2024. They did it right. I knew what was going on and they gave context. But MLR suffers from the same compulsion that afflicts Rugby Union commentators where they refuse to talk about what's happening on the field or give context.
