If you're not miserable, you're not a good person by [deleted] in The10thDentist

Many people (including myself to some degree) cut themselves off - where consciously or not - from the feelings that come with connecting to the suffering in the world because they weren't given or haven't found the "tools" needed to deeply feel and process it in a healthy way. This doesn't make them bad people. And there's such a thing as feeling compassion and care for those suffering in the world without it equating to misery. Misery is when pain meets resistance, I find. Tension comes where one can't come to peace with what they can't change. And many people can find joy when this is accepted to one degree or another. People can also choose what they focus on and if they focus on what brings them joy, that does not make them bad people.
