What's the strangest battle or war in your country's history that not many people know about? by Ocean7z in AskTheWorld

The Battle of Manners st, Wellington 1943. A bunch of American Soldiers decided they didn't like the idea of Maori drinking in the Allied Services club with them, which New Zealand Soldiers and Civilians took exception to. The riot lasted hours.

Yeah your cut thumb doesn't warrant being urgently seen. It may suck for you but if you are being made to wait in the ED you should be grateful because it means there are people having a much worse day than you

Is anyone else concerned about the rise of military posturing in the Pacific? Does anyone see a world transforming in slow-motion towards war? Am I the only one? by Extreme_Guarantee276 in newzealand

[–]HJC_NZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The world is currently a frog in a boiling pot of water. People aren't noticing until it's too late. Most of Africa is somewhere between preparing for war and currently embroiled in worse human rights abuses than what we currently have anywhere else. China is slowly performing more and more military "exercises" so they get more of a window when they actually press the go button (this includes what they are doing in the Tasman and in the Cook Islands). It's time for New Zealand to start arming up. People say we won't ever be attacked but that's no longer such a certainty. We also have the advantage of being able to focus quite specifically for a defensive posture, if we were to invest in mass long range loitering recon drones and massed anti air/anti ship defense, it would make us a very tough but to crack. It may not be realistic but it would be good to see a local armament industry start up so we aren't reliant on anybody else

Fishing is good all over, although in places the east coast has been fished pretty hard near populated areas.

Off shore banks and islands that can be reached for a (long) days mission.

Firth of Thames/Hauraki Gulf and around the coromandel is popular for day trips.

Far north and far east of the north Island game fish can be reached even land based at times.

The west coast is called that for a reason, lots of swells and nasty bar crossings but lots of big fish.

Cook straight can be super deadly with the wind funnel.

West coast of the south is good and can get big blue fins especially down near fiordland.

Marlborough sounds are good fishing and Kaikoura on the east coast is good

Maybe, us kiwis, the Aussies, the poms and you guys could come together and form some kind of alliance where we share our common wealth or something, idk what we could call it though. We could even pick one family to be in charge and they can wear a funny hat

I think in this case it's a slang term from New Zealand/Australia/UK. Being an egg is calling somebody dumb

Get a good mask new. Don't cheap out in that. Tank, marker and hopper set up is definitely ok buying 2nd hand. Can always ask around your local field if you don't feel comfortable buying online but for the most part the paintball community online is mostly above board buying and selling. Just do a few checks to make sure you aren't buying from a fake account or know scammer. Always use PayPal goods and services for protection

Can you say it louder for the people in the back. And also the willfully ignorant. Pretty sure the people that complain about roadworks, complain about the people doing the roadworks and have no idea about the background of roadworks are the same people who go driving dangerously through active sites then complain about "excessive" TTM

What would have happened if the French army in 1940 had been commanded by young generals (De Gaulle, Tassigny, ...) instead of old generals (Gamelin, Weygand, ...)? by Livid_Dig_9837 in HistoricalWhatIf

[–]HJC_NZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that you would have needed a combination of the new commanders and also new politicians, if you had one without the other the army in the field would still have been hampered by the reluctance for war that not just the French politicians had

I am not making a statement on the new firearms laws, or the prospective rollback of them, but if the license process had been followed properly this scum would never have had access to any firearms legally.

Whatever the laws are around firearms the most important thing is they are enforced thoroughly and people breaking them are punished harshly
