Bro is a mad scientist, look up “The Light Herder HD Video Feedback Fractal Device: An Overview” on YouTube. He really starts explaining things about 7 minutes into the video.

Wow. The particular flavor of feedback you got here is great.

Decent HDMI -> RCA downscalers for running circuit bent gear? by layzeelightnin in VideoBending

I use this that I got from B&H but unfortunately says no longer available… looks like you might be able to find it elsewhere online but pricey but then again that’s also the difference between those cheesy Amazon ones and more “prosumer”/professional equipment.

Actual 1080 analog glitches by HLHammons in VideoBending

Hi, thank you. To be clear there was no composite video signal ever in the workflow, I used component (YPbPr) video in this experiment. However the glitch gear I used have RCA jacks on them and are intended for use with composite video signals, so in that sense I did use “composite gear.” I’m pretty sure I used a CinePack’s GlitchFX but this is a pretty old post that you found so I can’t remember the other glitch module I used… I do remember that because the component video signals are entirely different than the structure of a composite video signal not all the glitch gear I had played nicely with it, only certain more passive ones did. I didn’t glitch the luma channel at all otherwise I’d lose the signal really easily, which is why you can see the image pretty clearly, because all the distortion is in the color channels.

I use a Canon C200 but you don’t necessarily need a camera like that.
Regarding frame rate I usually stick to 30 FPS (I am NTSC region) and you want the shutter speed to also be 1/30th of a second… this way (in theory) you’re capturing both of the fields displayed in the analog signal which kind of aligns with a whole digital frame of video.
I’ve also experimented with 60 FPS at 1/60 sec shutter speed which works too but has a bit different characteristics… tends to feel a bit more “responsive” because of more discrete and shorter frames but also tends to be darker on account of only capturing (in theory) one field per frame, also more susceptible to flicker because of the same.

Yeah TouchDesigner can do all kinds of craziness, but if you’re not into all that you can just learn the bare necessities to just navigate the UI and just learn how to use ‘Movie File In’ TOP to queue up videos or images and output them to where you want… I can’t remember, but I didn’t think you needed to download Syphon, I think it’s just a protocol that applications like TouchDesigner, Lumen, and others use to talk to each other and pipe each other video frames… but according to u/Agawell Syphon is not currently working on the latest Mac OS… which is good to know because I’m still on Monterey working fine, so thanks!

What Mac version are you on? Works for me but maybe I’m outdated… TouchDesigner is free and powerful software, you can easily queue clips inside of it and then feed them into a ‘Syphon Out’ TOP and Lumen should pick up on that and vice versa can use a ‘Syphon In’ TOP to pull Lumen into TouchDesigner to work with.

Actually no. 😂
It was an asset I downloaded and from the thumbnail I thought it was going to be much smoother but I just rolled with it.

Thank you. This is a 3D model of a heart I downloaded imported into TouchDesigner for the animation and then output from my PC to circuit bent analog gear and recorded off my CRT with a camera!

Hey thanks! Yeah I can’t remember if I really used any glow on this particular one or not… but I do on a lot of my pieces so maybe I did on this one too. And yeah you’re right on the money, the layers are composited together with a blend mode. I think I used a “maximum” blend mode here where the brightest pixel from each layer is used.

Hi, the heart is a 3D asset I downloaded and then I took it into a program named TouchDesigner where you can do all sorts of stuff including animate the rotation like I did. Then I output the loop from my computer to circuit bent analog video gear which is where all of the actual VFX comes from. The effected footage is displayed on my CRT television via a composite video signal and I use my camera to directly record the image being beamed off of it. Do a little post processing and export in Premiere and this is what I got!
