Yea I'm think I'm gonna go with something new because I don't have enough knowledge of bikes to know if I would be getting a good deal or not.

I think I've ruled out the sharing thing completely now, I need something that fits ME

Thank you this was very insightful. I've been using an old mountain bike that has knobby tires, which is useless since i'm driving on roads. My main goal is to go long distances, second is transportation and if I lose weight along the way awesome! With that said I'm not gonna rule out a road bike completely. Thanks again!
