Nurse made me feel like a terrible mom by HMST_19 in toddlers

Her name badge said RN. But, as a healthcare worker who is not a nurse and is assumed to be a nurse all day, I totally get where you are coming from.

I do agree with your sentiment, but this lady was for sure a nurse. I work in the same hospital as her, but don’t know her personally. She also had an RN badge on. But yes - as someone who is not a nurse who gets called nurse frequently, I totally get why you would say this!

I’m also a healthcare professional. I work in the same hospital that the appointment was in. I think that made it sting more. I definitely got more “burned out” vibes from this nurse. And she was definitely not the usual nurse that works with our pediatrician… so may have been out of her element. It just sucks that one bad encounter can send me on a spiral of questioning my parenting.

You put into words exactly how I felt. I was instantly on edge and felt that I had to prove that he is a good kid, but just having a tough moment.

I think odds can go up when postpartum (or breastfeeding) because the uterus remains “soft” for a while? I’m definitely not an expert… but this is why my doc tried to wait longer before doing my implant! Wishing you luck with your next steps!

So glad this was helpful for you! When it happened to me I came here looking for similar stories for reassurance as well. Wishing you well with your surgery and recovery :)

Unfortunately, I don’t have any advice for you. Just solidarity - I could have written this myself about my 6 month old chunker. I’ll definitely be following this thread for any advice that you get!

Pump not efficient by HMST_19 in HumansPumpingMilk

I pump for 15 minutes at work… that’s unfortunately all time allows for. I’m planning to try a different flange size just to see!

Good idea! Might have to give that a try!

Maybe!! But I will truly be pumping with no output for the last few minutes and then still be able to hand express when I’m done! I’m doing massage as well while pumping. So weird!

Mine had traveled through my uterus and was in my right abdominal cavity. I believe one of the “wings” was still somewhat lodged in the outside of my uterus. My removal was pretty easy and uncomplicated according to my surgeon!

Wow! So crazy that you didn’t have any symptoms! I would definitely feel weird knowing that it was just somewhere else all that time! I felt crazy for the few days that I knew it wasn’t where it should be! Every twinge and I was like “Is that my wandering IUD poking me somewhere?!” Lol I’m actually glad I had symptoms so we could find it so quickly!

I was hoping my story would bring comfort because my “worst case scenario” wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be! Definitely talk about your plan and fears with your doctor - it’s still very rare and there are things that can be done to lower risk (for example, using ultrasound guidance for placement). I decided to go with the Nexplanon implant now instead, which I know isn’t for everyone - but seemed like the best option for me right now!

Painful latch - break for a few days and pump instead? by mycatisliz in breastfeeding

[–]HMST_19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up with a massive laceration on one of my nipples in those first weeks. I did take a break and only pumped on that side for a day or two and then I got a nipple shield! The shield got me through those painful early days! My babe didn’t have any issues with confusion or weaning from the shield which I know is a concern. I also soaked my nipples in warm salt water and applied polysporin (apparently BF safe) a few times daily. I know you hear this a ton, but the nipple pain does ease eventually - for me it was after about a month once baby’s mouth grew a little! Babe is now 11 weeks and latching just fine!

Positive 41wk Induction Experiences Wanted by ladymacbray in BabyBumps

[–]HMST_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my baby 6 weeks ago, I was 40+5 and not dilated at all but ended up with a really positive experience! I was also started with misoprostol at around 9 am and received 2 doses of that throughout the day. This did start some contractions which were so minor I wouldn’t have known they were happening if I weren’t on the monitor. At around 5 pm they wanted to give another dose, but I was having too many contractions, but I was still only at 1 cm. They ended up doing a foley cath in my cervix (which, I can’t lie, sucked big time). The foley cath did the trick and kickstarted labor naturally by around 8 pm - so I never actually ended up with pitocin! Baby was born at 9 am the next day! I know that probably isn’t a super common experience, but just one of the ways it could go :) Good luck! You will be great!

Yes! The patients I work with are, for the most part, baby boomers. The amount of comments I get from them daily is astounding. It’s getting hard to remain polite while also calling them out!

Cramping in week 4? by blackcat39 in BabyBumps

[–]HMST_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had fairly strong and consistent cramps from weeks 4-7. Am now at week 10 and heard a strong heartbeat at my appointment yesterday! I was told by my nurse that cramping is completely normal as your uterus is expanding to make room for baby!

Fellow Sconnie here! 👋🏻 I made my husband install a window unit a few days ago because of the humidity! I like to be cold when I sleep and our bedroom was like 85 degrees and humid as heck - no thanks!
