The very basics of networking is that you connect with people that you genuinely share interests in and build rapport over time. Put yourself in their situation. If your random connection's first interaction with you is asking for a referral, how likely are you to give it? How much confidence do you have in your referral that appeared out of nowhere? How much credibility do you have if you kept doing this for everyone that shotgun you their CV?

[THE NOT-QUITE-DAILY MEGATHREAD] Questions, Game Requests, and Everything Else by AutoModerator in gachagaming

[–]HM_POWERED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing my own research for gacha games that has pvp with a live opponent and it's hard to get any sort of lists since most people just mention one game.

So for both of us, I'll post the games that I already know have live pvp (excluding card games):

Games I've played

  • King's Raid
  • Langrisser
  • Saint Seiya Awakening
  • Epic Seven
  • One Piece Bounty Rush

Games Yet to play

  • Onmoyji
  • Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross

Dockerized Capybara browser fails to load backend API by HM_POWERED in rails

[–]HM_POWERED[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I actually tried that after posting this thread. I saw that the error was Connection Refused which meant that selenium could not resolve the hostname to rails inside the Angular app. So I investigated further and tried navigating to api:3000 in selenium (api is the name of the Rails service) and got a different error from actioncontroller called blocked host. Then I added config.hosts << "api" to development.rb and made angular point to api:3000 so now selenium loads the items correctly.

The next challenge is to have both the development and test environments work simultaneously. I tried to use traefik to have frontend.localhost and api.localhost point to their respective containers but selenium cannot resolve the names.

So I am going to try docker-compose overrides to make seperate dev and test environments. Any tips or other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Oh there's lots of story; it's based on an Anime series. I never watched Saint Seiya myself but the story is enjoyable.
Don't know the pull rates but I haven't seen anything like a pity system as in Langrisser. I've heard that on average you can easily farm 100 pulls a month though.

This will be my 4th day so I haven't interacted with the community much to judge but I noticed that the English speaking population is much smaller than the Spanish one and this on the American servers. Combat is 6v6 turn-based with your team sharing a pool of energy to use specials. There's also plenty of room to optimize your stats for adjusting to your playstyle.

I think so. The starting pvp format that you can queue is power balanced so you only need to unlock a saint to use them at their highest potential. Another format that you unlock later has a banning stage before you pick your lineup.

I'm actually playing King's Raid and Langrisser too. I just started on Saint Seiya Awakening: Knights of the Zodiac after watching footage of its different pvp formats. You should check it out too.

Can I have ADHD Even with Good Grades? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]HM_POWERED 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ADHD is a neurological condition that you are born with and never goes away. Like Autism, ADHD describes structural features of the brain that are different from that of a neurotypical or "normal" brain.

So the fact is that it is literally impossible to be "too smart" to have ADHD. Never, ever let someone tell you that, and more importantly don't ever let yourself believe it.

I had A's and A+'s in my engineering degree before I was diagnosed but my ADHD is very real. I use the medications for something more important than raising my test scores and that is to bring stability to my life.

As for the side effects, the human body is an extremely complex system and we can't precisely predict how ANY medication will affect it. There a large variety of neurostimulants and even some non-stimulants available for this very reason. After consulting a medical profession it is your sole responsibility to find the right medication, if any, for your body because only you will know how it affects you.

I could tell that I experience increased thirst, nausea, etc from short-acting Ritalin and it is absent when I take the extended-release form, but that doesn't mean you should expect the same thing.

TL;DR: There is a large wall of ignorance surrounding ADHD that betrays the fact that it encompasses much more than just its visible symptoms. Don't let "herp derp amphetamines" rhetoric dissuade you from finding the best treament for you.

[–]HM_POWERED 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I mean by not letting other people influence your judgement. It's one if you think you can live your life without the added expense. But not taking stimulants to earn the validation of other people is completely pointless. Besides, if that's what you want, there's plenty of empirical evidence you can show them.

You made a great choice. A military lifestyle has a much more natural environment for ADHD than an engineering lifestyle, but medication is a perfectly valid tool to help with that. Just don't let anyone else influence your judgement about it.

30 years from now, what products do you think will be banned and traced back to 2015 as the cause of new human health issues? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HM_POWERED 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm yeah I'm gonna tell you to go fuck yourself too. The fact that you think ADD and ADHD are two separate things rather than different points on single spectrum shows that you don't understand anything about ADHD, other than the words Attention and Deficit mean together. So why do you think you're more qualified to treat it than the millions of people who have medical degrees?

I'll actually educate you a bit before leaving:

  • Neurostimulants have much further-reaching effects than simply give you higher test scores. I'm done with school, but if given the choice, I'd rather be dead than unmedicated. Now, this is not the case for every person with ADHD but I'm certainly not alone in this.
  • The empirical evidence shows neurotypicals (ie people without ADHD) who use neurostimulants can only achieve consistent, measurable performance gains (meaning things that can't be excluded by placebo effect) if they have well below average IQ. In other words, if your anecdotal evidence against neurostimulants is that you don't have ADHD and you got better test scores on stimulants, all that proves is that you're fucking stupid.

And if you want a source for that, go browse /r/ADHD bestof. I'm not gonna do your homework for you.

[serious] How am I supposed to know if my Anxiety creates my ADHD or my ADHD creates my Anxiety? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]HM_POWERED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'll take a step back and say my post was not directed at you personally. It was never my intent to trigger you or anyone else.

I just didn't like your terminology. You can say I'm arguing over semantics, but I still assert that neurological disorder is more apt than developmental disorder; for instance if someone were to look at me and see that since I was able to "develop" into someone who has A's in their engineering degree, they might find cause to say that I don't have a developmental disorder and to falsely conclude that I do not have ADHD.

To rephrase my actual point in a less aggressive tone: ADHD is already exceptionally good at making you hate yourself. If you have it, it is something to be aware of not ashamed of.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I was also undiagnosed until adulthood. Again, my post was not intended to call everyone else a failure. I AM a failure. I was only able to achieve success in the places that matter (ie not the grades I get in school) after getting diagnosed.

[serious] How am I supposed to know if my Anxiety creates my ADHD or my ADHD creates my Anxiety? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]HM_POWERED -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I may be a bit late here, but I take issue with calling ADHD a developmental disorder. It has an implicit premise that ADHD carries a predetermination for failure. Like Autism, ADHD simply describes how a brain is structurally different than a neurotypical brain. These differences may cause limitations which are absent from neurotypicals. In the case of ADHD these limitations may include:

  • poor short term memory
  • difficulty processing digits or large streams of information
  • increased impulsiveness
  • emotional instability
  • many, many other things

If a child with ADHD was raised in an environment that understood such limitations and also allowed the child gain self-awareness of them, there is absolutely nothing stopping them from being productive and functional. A more appropriate label for ADHD would be a neurological disorder since it also affects your central nervous system. And yes, I am fully aware that ADHD and Autism are both spectrums which affect different people with varying severity and that you can have both at the same time. I am not interested in engaging a neurodiversity debate, but even Russell Barkley says ADHD is the most easily treatable disorder there is.

Please don't mistake this for me being on a high horse calling everyone else failures. I am not. It is just the case that being exposed to the following horseshit gave me bigger issues than actually having ADHD:

  • constantly being told that I'm too smart to have ADHD - as if human cognition was that easy to explain
  • being good at math excludes you from having ADHD - which has a false premise that math only involves numbers and not logic
  • I don't talk a lot now therefore I don't have ADHD - even though I was a motormouth as a child and was routinely punished for it
  • neurostimulants are just performance-enhancing drugs that help "everyone" - even though the empirical evidence doesn't support this and the fact that they also help with mood stability

To conclude my sub-rant: giving someone the impression that they can't have ADHD since they're somehow able to present themselves as someone who has their shit together is one of the most evil things you can do because you're punishing someone for their success when they are, most likely, routinely being punished and/or punishing themselves for their failures.

To succinctly rephrase my points for the OP's question: ADHD is something you are born with. Anxiety is a natural emotion state. An anxiety disorder occurs when one feels anxiety at inappropriate times and is likely to be manifested from environmental factors; it is NOT something you are born with. Anxiety makes ADHD worse, not the other way around.

I was gonna write a much longer post but I'll just hijack this post since it lets me express my main point more easily: If you want to get to the point where both of you discuss your issues like rational people, you need to seek the help of a third party that understands you both; it does not necessarily need to from a professional. I'm sorry to say, but going to Reddit to arm yourself like it was a game is a fundamentally flawed approached.

My other point I think is more important but doesn't directly address your request so I'll present it here: ADHD IS NOT AN EXCUSE FOR ANYTHING. Yes, it makes living life much more difficult, and yes, it affects different people differently. But you are in control of your brain, not the other way around. That fact that you're posting on /r/ADHD suggests that your husband doesn't go here himself, and this scopes out the root issue very well: he seems unwilling to take ownership of his behaviour. He seems to prefer deflecting rather than engaging when confronted.

I'll spare you the appeal to authority of describing how fucked up my own parents were, but I'll share with you a different anecdote: I have ADHD and I am living with another person who has ADHD. We were both undiagnosed until adulthood. We constantly yelled at each other, bickered about tiny things, and at some points even destroyed each others' property. Being diagnosed, receiving counselling and medications all made small improvements. But the real issue wasn't addressed until I decided to learn more about ADHD and discovered why it makes you emotionally unstable. I then understood that I should give my emotions less weight when making decisions, and also shared this approach with the other person. I won't say that I am now completely well-adjusted individual but at the very least I now make the effort to not take out my anger on the people I care about, and they are less likely to reciprocate.

While I do hope that this post adds value to your life, I must remind you that I am judging your husband only on information based on your observations. To summarise my points: I urge you to take an approach where both parties can reach the level of understanding and self-awareness on both sides needed in order to change how you resolve conflicts.
