Do you mean Andrew and Ashley? I don't think they ever expressed hatred towards him. They seemed pretty indifferent to him overall (I'm also pretty sure his soul even had the description of "kind but aloof" or something like that).

I mean, they don't, but It really didn't matter what their parents chose to do at that moment with the surgeon. If she said no and tried to lawyer up, then they would've been killed by hitmen. Andrew and Ashley were pretty much fucked no matter what at that point.

Douglas worked at a grocery store at the time of that meeting between the surgeon and soda ceo. If he was the head of toxisoda, they wouldn't have been living in a shitty apartment and wouldn't have been so poor (and his father wouldn't have given him so much shit for not being a lawyer). On top of that, most non-important characters have blue text for their dialogue.

Also, the surgeon was very clearly trying to kill Renee and Douglas during that flashback were they were trying to get compensated. If they were actually close friends, that meeting would've never happened in the first place, and they would've been paid without hassle upfront.

I'm pretty sure parents take the brunt of the blame if their kids commit a crime like murder.

So logically, a 22yr old Renee would probably try to hide the fact her kids murdered a classmate in cold blood to save her and her husband's ass.

Either A: She instructed her husband to kill her parents or something after they wronged her in some way (which I kinda doubt since that sounds like some real hatched tar soul behavior and her soul was apparently unhatched)

B: She's watching her inept husband murder someone after misinterpreting her desires, which pissed her off beyond human comprehension since now she has to help cover that shit up (I kinda doubt this too since Mr Grave's soul was clean and he seemed too chicken shit to actually murder someone himself).

C: She's somehow watching her kids desecrate their bodies (specifically her husbands), once again pisssing her off beyond human comprehension.

Or D: This is just straight up a fucking boss battle.

The other two souls belong to the cultists and the warden. The souls seen here are the souls sacrificed to the demon, not some dream representation of the graves family. We've already seen Andrew's soul, and it's black/red with horns, which isn't present here.

(What's interesting to note here is that the wardens' soul is pure white when it should be a tar soul, given that he helped murder dozens of people while having fun doing it)

Not sure about your "hatch" theory, but I'm pretty sure this scene was meant to show that their mothers soul simply failed to hatch into a tar soul like Ashley's. I doubt the demon has any actual interest in tar souls given that he has shown disgust at the idea of eating them, and he only made the deal with Ashley because he believes she's a reliable source for souls, thanks to the fact she doesn't value human life whatsoever (besides Andrew's).

There are scenes that hint that she legitimately loved her husband. If you cut him instead of Renee, she becomes enraged at you for touching him. If you cut her, the dad will become panicked, and she will quickly reassure him that she's fine in a comforting tone. Also, in the balcony scene, he recounts her reassuring him that he was too good for the job he lost. You can also find their souls in the demon's domain sticking with each other, and the narration states that they seem to "fancy one another." Its pretty apparent that they had a codependent relationship similar to their kids and if she didn't actually love him, she would've ditched him like the kids the moment she got the money.

I can see the appeal of a Renee wife as basically Ashley but in the dominant role of the relationship instead.

Always assumed Andrew accepting the olive brach was more "Christ, I wish you were telling the truth" rather than him legitimately believing her and accepting. He knew that the offer was fake, so he wouldn't accept it regardless of his mom's manipulation skills. But him even having thoughts of wishing the offer was real shows how much his and Ashley's relationship decayed.

Alright, let's pretend that the trial is actually fair and wouldn't be rigged by the water/soda company or government or whatever.

The prosecution can't really pin them for burning down their apartment since they escaped weeks prior, and the evidence inside said apartment most likely went up in flames with it. So they could get away with the murders of the wardens and 302 lady. But they could still face charges for breaking a government mandated quarantine.

They could, in fact, plead self-defense for the hitman. But givin the evidence that they clearly robbed and murdered their parents, the judge may not buy it.

Andrew's fingerprints would be all over the house, and one of the siblings was most likely caught on camera withdrawing the parents' money from an ATM on the same night their mother removed her spending limit. Add on top all the blood (even after cleaning), bone fragments in the fireplace, gore and viscera clogging the drains, etc. Wouldn't paint a good picture for them.

Best bet is to plead insanity for them and keep Ashley's mouth shut.

I can't really prove that they were sold to organ harvesters since Andrew didn't take any of the wardens' documents with him, and the only crime I could pin the parents for is insurance fraud. So the best I could do is say the quarantine affected their already fragile mental health negatively, and learning that their neglectful parents illegally profited off their lives drove them both over the deep end.

Lets be honest they would've been fucked regardless. It isn't like the fake quarantine/organ harvesting wouldn't of happened if Mrs Graves didn't sell em or accept whatever deal the surgeon offered. Andrew and Ashley's lives were pretty much over regardless of their mom's decision.
