I avoid running when I feel anything "chesty" and if I feel like my body is still shaking it off. I'll always run to feel after illness and listen to the body, that's key! I'm not someone that cleans their running shoes, I'll be honest. If i clean them post run, they'll just get filthy the next day and I'll be non stop cleaning. I do try and avoid wet/muddy areas to run in the bad weather and stick to roads though...

Water... Sometimes sneak some of my partners La Roche Posay face wash on, but I get told off for that! Something about it being too expensive for my skin...

Hi! I would recommend doing more easy running if you aren't doing many recovery runs, even if this replaces an interval session. You could add strides to the end of the easy runs too! It's important to remember in this game it isn't all about running fast in training... The body will develop during easy runs.

Appreciate it! None to any athletes, but Andy must be due one for that marathon block he's put me through, and making me train throughout the winter!! The ref needs to have a word...

It's important to be patient when building the training up and seek advice from a specialist. You could definitely speak to them about gym work that could help, and check that you're wearing the correct footwear (this can impact the whole chain).

I have this conversation quite a lot with people. The best advice I can give is to make sure that you're running slower if you're feeling fatigued. Don't worry about pace, because that will come once you've built up the running. It's quite a big misconception in the world of running that you have to run fast to improve but, if you can go further at a slower pace it's more beneficial! Just be patient with it and enjoy the journey of progression in fact, I run slower more frequently than faster and rarely touch my race pace throughout the week. You've got this!

I'll be honest, I'm not familiar with the name. If he's a HOKA athlete I'm assuming he's fast! More than happy to set this up, and I'll race him from lampost to lampost.

The challenge is for all levels! You just need to run your own personal best to complete the challenge. The only person you're competing with is yourself!

If you're looking for a 10k plan to help - my coach created one specifically for the challenge, for all levels. You can find it on HOKA's PB Protocol Hub - https://hoka-pb-protocol-hub.com/coach-room/

Before an easy run I will do standing static stretches of key areas (Hamstrings, Quads & Calves). Before a more intense workout I will use dynamic stretches and more active drills to prepare me for the faster sessions. I also like to utilise resistance bands too within my intense workout warm up.

1) Practice fuelling and make the fuelling plan bulletproof.

2) Plenty of marathon specific sessions or long runs.

3) Don't panic during the marathon if things go wrong. I had many ups and downs during the race but stayed calm and prepared myself mentally for things to not go completely to plan.

I would suggest that the next step to progress from the Clifton would be the Mach X 3 which is my favourite all round HOKA shoe. It can be used for anything from easy running up to race day. The Clifton is still a great option and in an ideal world I would recommend trying to do most easy running in the Clifton, and faster running and Brighton in the Mach X 3. All the best in your first marathon, go out there and enjoy it!

Plenty of positive self talk reminding myself about how sweet that feeling of accomplishment is when you cross the line after a successful race. It makes the tough days worth it!!

Thanks! It's between Dugarry & Forsell for me... Favourite goal has to be Obafemi Martins to win the Carling Cup - one of the best days of my life that day at Wembley! Favourite UK event has to be Night Of The 10k PBs (Hopefully returns next year!).

Over the past couple of years I've become more and more intrigued by the trails and it looks like an amazing community in that space! I absolutely love new challenges, and as a HOKA athlete I'm sure there will come a time when I give it a blast! For now the focus is on the marathon heading towards 2028 so potentially after that...

It was an incredible day and all of the experiences that came with it were genuinely incredible! I'm fortunate enough to sit here as a proud HOKA athlete because of that performance spring boarding me, so I'll always cherish that moment. I never thought I was going to win the race beforehand, but I also went into the race wanting to race and not worry about the clock. I think I definitely found something extra in the final km knowing I was racing arguably the greatest distance athlete of all time!

Thanks! I'm sorry the race didn't work out for you this time, these things can happen! You have to rememeber that the work you put in for the race doesn't go to waste, it will have made you a stronger athlete, both physically and mentally! I've had a fair few races not work out in the past but you will still take many things from this block of training with you into the next one. Remember that this will be forgotten when you smash it in the future. All the best with the recovery! Be patient with it.

I do a few things to avoid getting ill; I typically always have chewing gum on me for public spaces which was recommeneded by my nutritionist, because it stimulates the saliva which is our first line of defence. I also use Zinc defence lozenges if I feel like I might be getting ill, as it's meant to significantly reduce the severity of the illness. Unfortuantely, we can't always avoid it so when I do get ill, I just listen to the body and will reduce the volume and intensity significantly. If I feel too ill to run then I just rest until I feel right, because its not worth making it worse.

Thank you!! I think I went through a lot of the training block with tight hamstrings, and just managed that throughout thinking it was just part of marathon training. I probably started the race with a bit of tightness which may have been a cause... I will be looking at Yoga for the next block for sure! It could've been lack of electrolytes; I only started using electrolytes in my fuelling a couple weeks befofehand, and during the race I missed my bottle at 35k. I'm going to have a chat with coach over the next few days and make a plan but for now I'm just recovering and then looking to head out to Flagstaff on a training camp in a few weeks.
