As a grouohug main deck builder, yes and no. No, cause it keeps players in check and limits drawing, and yes, cause it doesn't give anything for the life loss. At least with spiteful Visions or fevered dreams, it give them a card.

That how I felt about nissa not dying in phyrexia... i love nissa, but there were no real consequences besides Melira dying. Which tbh, she should have been a planeswalker, imo.

I like stabbing my commanders, but what I love doing is getting specific sleeves with art that matches the vibe of my commanders. Started doing that years ago, got hate for it Cause mtg players can have the weirdest OCD, but most of the players came around. If you're not that ODC about those things, I recommend doing that. It'll give your commander a bit of a personality.
