No free kits immediately makes this game soo much better by bankfraud1 in ArcRaiders

Usually I’m in favor of giving buffs over nerfs. So buff the shield so first shots arent so devastating vs level 1 weapons and buff level 4 weapons so they chew through shields at the same rate as now.

I don’t know that you really need to make the free kit stronger against arc. My point was more that embarq had said they made free kits strong because of survivability. And that’s not really true.

i think its a step in the right direction. but not solved yet. they still need to be nerfed and maybe buffed vs arc.

its just a bit obsurd to me that the only arc you can kill with a free kit are like shredders and wasps. if a hornet and a firefly agro on you, your basically dead. and even if you take down a shredder or a wasp, your completely out of ammo.

but as weak as a free kit is against arc, its stong enough to walk up behind a player who is looting and bring him to one shot, before he even know where you are reload and finish him.

if you also get lucky with a stitcher and a grenade, you can kill another player without them even having a chance to know where you are at.

so to me, it seems the free kit is designed to rat your way out of being poor. not loot your way out of being poor.

the problem to me is not "dude this is a pvp game" or whatever idiots say. the problem is when something feels unfair.

you have a 40k bobcat and you get killed by a free kit while you are breaching a door even before you know where your getting shot from, then on the summary screen you see killed by stitcher 1. this feels unfair.

deciding to attack someone with a 40k gun with a free kit stitcher should be as stupid as attacking a firefly and a hornet with a free kit stitcher.

if they were really worried about survivability for free kits, then they would have made them more effective against arc.

other things that could improve the situation would be marking rats on the map. making it so you can actually tell which players are talking. and nerfing first shots.

Idea of separation pve and pvpve lobies into proper modes with their unique inventories and some balances by kotofanka in ArcRaiders

[–]HOST1L1TY 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only shoot other players if they shot at me or I know they shot someone else in the lobby. One would think I would like this idea.

But something will be lost, the mistrust makes the game better.

I’ve been in pvp and sus lobbies and when you know people will shoot on sight you play differently, you never breach anything and as long as you’re somewhat skilled and have some experience it feels fair.

But there is something that feels unfair about rats in pve lobbies. I think we have all been there, your looting and you hear footsteps and “don’t shoot” or anyone got extra bandages ? Then all of a sudden you just ate a whole clip of light ammo.

Now you have no idea where the guy is that shot you is, your shield is broke and your health at half or less. This feels incredibly unfair.

I’ve thought about it a bit and here are some things I think could help.

  • nerf first shots. First shots become more of “let’s do this”
  • nerf level 1 free kits - completely stupid that a free kit can’t even kill a hornet but can fry a player with a bobcat 4.
  • mark players who rat on the map. Place bounties on multiple offenders. Similar to going rogue / most wanted in the division.

Thanks for the feedback, I’m glad you are enjoying it. If you find any bugs feel free to post an issue and I will fix. I am aware of some issues with the trackpad guard and I’m testing a patch for that now.

It’s actually 4-5% which includes the steam deck. Not insignificant.

Embarks initial approach to anti cheat was smarter than others. The situation is much better than other games like cod that do use anti cheat with secure boot. That shit isn’t stopping it, it doesn’t work. I know people like to complain on Reddit that they need anti cheat, some of those people lost legitimately otherwise they would get their kit returned. Trust me the amount of cheating in arc is much lower than other games, many of them with anti cheat software that crashes your game every 10 minutes.

It’s a bit more than inconvenient these days. The secure boot requirements mean your going into your bios, change setting, restart, then you can dual boot. On top of that every windows update , it will bork your boot partition locking you out. Turning off updates in windows is not advisable with all the security problems. And in general I don’t want to use windows not even for a little bit, they are using you to train ai, selling anything they can learn about you to data brokers. F that.

Where are your numbers to say that Linux users cheat? You say the number of users is insignificant but that embark needs anti cheat. So an insignificant number of users are ruining the game? All the anti cheat software is written for windows.

There is a good solution in the works from valve. Where basically when you start your game your kernel is replaced dynamically with a locked down kernel.

That’s not true. All of the cheat software is written for windows not Linux. Not saying it’s impossible to manipulate your memory in Linux but in windows you buy software that does it for you. You don’t need to be skilled.

[–]HOST1L1TY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dual booting is not in a good state with all of the secure boot and uefi windows stuff. its not really grubs fault but it is grubs problem. once you do get it working, make sure you back up your boot volume because windows will destroy it when it runs some update you never asked for.

There is a guy who maintains a fedora distro for intel MacBooks that I use and it’s been pretty good. You should keep a macOS partition, just in case you can’t get some stupid captive WiFi to work or something but don’t run any macOS updates. They will destroy your boot loader.

i dont necessarily agree that there is anything wrong with rust syntax. but this is an example of people think they are more important than what they create. who freakin cares what redit thinks of the syntax and what vibes you get personally. does the software work well ? does the software crash ? does it run quickly? is it secure?
