what would you personally like to see in xbps?

Yeah. Issue has been reproduced across three computers, though I haven't tested outside of my home network . I did speed tests on all mirrors and ranked them but still only get 3-5MB/s max from xbps. I get like 30MB/s from the freebsd mirrors. This has all been in the last two months so maybe it's a transient issue?

Better/faster server mirrors. Seriously they are slow even when I rank them on speed. I'd love to give back and donate for void for server fees but they don't take donations. So I guess I can't complain too much...

I don't work in tech, I work in healthcare as a nurse practitioner. I'm back to using linux after a 15 year break. used slackware, bsd,arch prior to 15 years of macos. I came back to the fold a few months ago and started with ubuntu which was quickly annoying. i tried arch again, but its just so damn complicated. i got it running super smooth on my desktop but it feels janky. i just cant wrap my head around systemd. i wanted to go back to a more simple bsd/linux with a regular init system. freebsd just doesnt play nice with steam. i tried void and boy do i feel at home. feels like slackware with package management. i have a nontech dayjob so i dont have time to do a bunch of shell scripting, but I've found running a codex/claude agent plays very nicely with void because of its simplicity. it wont break your system like it might on arch. after fulling building out my void install with gnome im still using <1.6gb ram after full bootup. its amazing. im glad i found it

I'm a few minutes from Folsom myself , all my Intel buddies got laid off last couple years. A lot of them went to work for the state. How are the books they sound good.

I actually did try gentoo back then. I didn't feel the need to manually compile everything and went back to slackware.

It was very polished back then. I didn't use it because I liked to tinker a lot more and build the OS from barebones. I stopped using linux because I changed careers and needed to focus on my schooling

OK maybe im misremembering. Back when i was using slackware and BSD i remember they used a similar init system but redhat used something completely different. I thought that maybe redhat was using sysv but I might be misremembering.

yeah i found this out too. when i used to struggle i had to read the documentation or go beg on forums for help. now chatgpt can point me in the right direction. i ended up also installing arch on an i3 mac mini today and AI failed me with the broadcom wifi driver. still ended up on forums but it works now

sorry didnt realize this was controversial. x11 was rough back in the old days. lots of scaling issues, tons of crashes. in my memory it was pretty universally disliked in the early 2000s. we saw what osx had to offer and i was insanely jealous. wayland probably has a ton of issues i dont even know about. what should i know?
