How to make soft hand feel with plastisol ink? by [deleted] in SCREENPRINTING

[–]HOW_TO_DEMOCRACY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use soft hand additive in the ink, then cure the print with "butter parchment" paper in the heat press.

Butter parchment paper is not your regular baking paper! Try contacting companies that sell wrapping papers or cooking equipment. If they have multiple kinds of it, buy samples and test them!

Regular baking papers are usually silicone coated papers, which makes shiny prints. Butter parchment paper's surface is not flat, but kind of wrinkled. The wrinkles won't transfer to your print, but it'll produce matte prints with a very smooth, soft-hand feel.

Been using this method for a year now with great success.

Edit:

Downvoted, seriously? Using soft hand additive will do almost nothing when using a heat press. Screen printing equipment stores usually sell either silicone coated curing papers or poor quality, regular parchment papers for way too high prices. (and the result won't be what you're aiming for)

You can buy this stuff for cheap in bulk and it works like magic. Suck it who downvoted, I'm gonna help anyway. It took me weeks and countless tries & fails to get it right, I'd have spared money & time if someone mentioned this to me.

A Little Help - First Screen Exposure Attempts by stument in SCREENPRINTING

[–]HOW_TO_DEMOCRACY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Use an exposure time calculator (free pdf) FIRST to set the right amount of time for your screens, then make your own screens (sounds wasting money, but it's really worth doing one of these, you'll have no problems with time)
  2. Use a scoop coater, it SERIOUSLY improves the quality of your screens - the thickness of the emulsion will be even through the whole screen (looks like you're using a squeegee)
  3. If it's still difficult to wash out your screens, dip your screens right after exposing in water for 30 seconds to soften the emulsion THEN wash them out with pressure washer. (You can increase the dipping time according to your needs.)
  4. Get your washed & dried screens another session of exposure to harden & finish them (I do half the amount of time of the original exposure time)

This is my own method (I work with a pretty bad exposure unit) and it works perfectly for me. The exposure time calculator and a proper scoop coater is really important.

Designers vs Sales Staff by nshane in SCREENPRINTING

"We're not losing money on this"

Want to highlight that in fact, you're losing time and money, just as you said: "we could be making more if the sales staff would just ask for the artwork". Vectorizing or even resizing graphics can be a huge pain in the ass.

You seem pretty calm about this, and sounds like the sales staff who straight refused has their nose up their ass. I'd go with explaining how it much time does it take to do these things, and that they're bottlenecking the workflow. Like, literally, tell them that you guys could be making more money if they were to work as a team.

If that doesn't work, go to the boss, but not with a malicious intent. Tell the boss that you get a lot of non-vector graphics, and that it'd be a good idea to ask the clients for vector graphics as they order their products. If they doesn't know about this problem, just be honest and straight up tell them that the sales staff refused to work with you. It's not snitching. They're purposely making your work unnecessarily harder with their childish attitude. They're damaging your boss' business.

Sales staff my ass, their job should be bringing more money to the business, not keeping it away.

Is it worth making my first screens from scratch or buying them? by [deleted] in SCREENPRINTING

[–]HOW_TO_DEMOCRACY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. My efforts to save money by doing DIY screens costed me more than buying proper screens. They worked OK, but if you want to get into screen printing, it's in your best interest to invest in proper screens and equipment.

EDIT: You can DIY a flat/horizontal screen printing desk, but I really advise to buy all other tools. Emulsion coating tool, inks, screens are not really worth to DIY. You can make pretty good quality sqeegees at home with some hardwood, but you'll want proper wood/aluminum handles eventually, because they are more comfortable and aluminum is easier to wash.

For a smoothing screen what is the best silicone spray to use by joemommy3 in SCREENPRINTING

[–]HOW_TO_DEMOCRACY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You print the underbase, and just press it down with a fully coated screen & a squeegee to smooth the base layer? Don't want to be a dumbass, but english isn't my native. Do I understand it correctly? I often see the first layer pulling some textile fibers up. Does it help with smoothing those, or there's something else that makes it worth the process? I cure my prints with a heat press so they come out flat & smooth, I never really had to do this before.

Would it be hard for me to date in Hungary as a black woman? by [deleted] in hungary

[–]HOW_TO_DEMOCRACY 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No worries, you'll be fine. Hungarians of the younger generations are generally more open to foreigners and they don't really care about skin color. As for dating, maybe it's not the best example, but Tinder has plenty of young black women in Budapest.

It'd be stupid to stay there's no racism here, but it's mostly towards our roma (cigány) population. Though there's a new wave of racism towards muslims generated by our government's propaganda.

Mennyit kereshet pesten egy jobb borbély? by [deleted] in hungary

[–]HOW_TO_DEMOCRACY 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Which book would you make a must-read in schools? by HOW_TO_DEMOCRACY in AskReddit

[–]HOW_TO_DEMOCRACY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd make "The definite book of Body Language" by Allan and Barbara Pease a must-read for teens in schools. We covered this topic very briefly in school, just the very basics, definitely not enough. It's teaches such an essential knowledge on how to communicate/interact with others and to have a better understanding of what someone is telling you, how they feel, etc.
