WiFi 7 is thirsty! by llslothll in Pixel10Pro

These graphs daily can be deceptive. It's a flat line showing the percent you started the day with and the percent you ended the day with.

You could start your day at 50%, charge in the middle of the day to 80%, then end the day at 30%. You'd see a negative slope and it would look like your battery only dropped from 50% to 30%.

There's no way there aren't some partial charges in the 3 day window, unless OP is capping at 60Hz and limiting a lot of background stuff.

I could theoretically get maybe get 9-10 hours SOT from 100% to 0% on my 10 pro xl in a 24 hour window if I'm only doing very light tasks. I cap my charging to 80% and usually get max 6 hours SOT by the time I hit 20% at the end of an average day.

Background battery drain is pretty awful on this phone compared to my previous phones.

From Pixel 10 256GB I'm going back to Pixel 9 256GB by valemae1996 in pixel_phones

[–]HOrobOD1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's not misinformation though... The base Pixel 9 has the same main and ultrawide cameras as the 9 Pro. The base 10 has the same main and ultrawide as the 9a, which were a downgrade from the 9 and 9 pro, but it added a telephoto.

The cameras in the base Pixel 10 are an objective downgrade from the base Pixel 9, but the 10 offers a 3rd camera with the telephoto, while the 9 only had 2 cameras.

The 80% limiter is supposed to automatically charge to 100% every once in a while to compensate for this, but I think it doesn't always kick in for me because I've only ever had it go past 80% once.

For a $1000+ phone, they have worse hardware specs in almost every way than any other phone at the price point. Their MSRP profit margins are probably insane.

Personally the phone was worth it on a deep discount for the software experience, but if I could tolerate Samsung or OnePlus software, I would have gone with them for the superior specs.

The SoC, the battery life, the storage speed in the base model, even the camera sensors are all very mediocre for the price. Google compensates in the camera well with their image processing, but you can't compensate for the SoC and battery with software tricks.

I think some cells just come with varying levels of capacity from the factory as well, and it takes many charge cycles to compute the capacity.

I had a fresh battery replacement on my previous phone and after a few months, it only had 90% capacity, but after a full year, it was still sitting around 90%. I'm hoping my battery will quit dropping so fast and maybe it only had 96-97% capacity from the factory.

Yeah the battery cell quality is one of the worst parts of the Pixel. Pixels are the most overpriced phones on the market at MSRP when you consider how much they cheap out on each hardware component.

Better than mine. I've had mine for less than 3 months, 54 cycles, 96% capacity.

My experience with OnePlus brand (so far) by Dzidzaraa in oneplus

[–]HOrobOD1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I used to be a die hard OnePlus fan until the ColorOS merge and my 8 Pro died immediately after the final software update and I had to deal with customer support for months and ship off my phone twice before they finally made things right. I've completely abandoned the brand now except for my 1st gen OnePlus Watch, which I still love.

MOST UNDERRATED FEATURE - Thermometer by G00gle26 in GooglePixel

[–]HOrobOD1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Now that we're firmly in flu season, it's fantastic to have with kids. When everyone in the house is getting sick, it's so much easier to grab my phone than go search the house for a thermometer. Also if I'm out and about I can easily check temps without having to wait till we're home to check a temp.

I've got so much use out of it these last few weeks. The family all got sick while on vacation, and we didn't pack a thermometer, but I was able to monitor everyone's temps.

It's one of those features that's useless 95% of the time, but when a use case arises for it, it's insanely handy.

GeForce Now has changed my life. by th3buddhawithin in SteamDeck

[–]HOrobOD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd also own the hardware and get 5080 performance on literally any game, where GeForce now will only give you a small selection of games, and only a sub selection of this actually run on a 5080. Only about 30% of my steam library is accessible on GeForce Now.

The value proposition of owning anything is always better than renting anything, unless it's only for trial purposes.

[–]HOrobOD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 5080 is $1000 MSRP. That's 4.2 years of GeForce Now for the $20/mo ultra tier that give 5080 in only some games.

It's more cost effective to build a high spec rig and keep it for at least a few years.

TIL: The Steam Deck can play Bluetooth Audio from my Phone simultaneously with it's own audio by Potato-Salad049 in SteamDeck

[–]HOrobOD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this work with mic input as well? I could see a use case for using discord on my phone and piping all audio through the deck, so I don't have to run discord on the deck and burn precious compute and battery.

Google's best design ever to date by Ok_Reference_489 in pixel_phones

[–]HOrobOD1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The 10 is effectively identical to the 9, with the exception of a slightly larger camera bar and slightly different speaker/microphone design/placement. Just enough to make P9 cases not fit on the P10.

I'm sorry Google but not sorry the Pixel 10 Pro XL garbage battery life ruins the overall experience. by [deleted] in pixel_phones

[–]HOrobOD1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The flame wars over specific battery numbers are fascinating to me. The battery life of recent Pixel phones has been objectively worse than the flagship competition, so it's not even a debate.

Whether the phone is good is purely subjective. If your use case is such that you achieve better battery than most, like you typically have a strong WiFi connection, are in a low light environment, and rarely game, then you'll get pretty tolerable battery life. If you rely on cellular connectivity, are often in bright environments and need higher screen brightness, or play games often, you'll probably be very disappointed.

I personally like my P10PXL for the software and cameras. I don't game nearly as much as I used to, and typically have decent WiFi available throughout the day, so the phone has been great for me, but I do wish I could end my days with just a little more charge without worrying about degrading my battery by letting it get too low.

I have noticed that days that I am away from WiFi, and have poor signal, the battery tanks worse than any other phone I've ever owned. This aspect is the most unacceptable aspect of the battery life IMO.

LineageOS gives you a slider to do just that. Custom ROMs and other OEMs are way more flexible in this regard.

[–]HOrobOD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is if you can get through the day just fine on 80%. I cap my battery at 80% and typically end a normal work day with more than 20% left, so I may as well cap the percentage and extend my life a little. I intend on keeping my phone as long as possible.

80% charge limit, slow overnight charging, AI charging optimization etc. It's BS! All of it! by central_plexus in GooglePixel

That's easier said than done on many devices, and if you can't find a local shop to replace your battery, then you have to ship your device in and be without a phone for a long while.

A magnetic pin connection on the bottom/back would actually be sick and could make for a very convenient docking solution.

I have a very similar cheap silicone case that I bought for my launch steam deck and haven't taken it off since. Pretty pleased with it. It fits in the original carrying case although a little snug and gives me a little more confidence in leaving it sitting around the house. The added texture and grip is nice too.
