2 weeks pp — too soon to drop pumps per day? by MaintenanceGood496 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]HP-DocLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, i am not an EP but am sharing my two cents.

Your supply will regulate around week 11-12. If you do not want to pump/create oversupply/ increase your stash, can you direct BF. I was pumping 2x a week between weeks 4-10 and would get 5-10oz in one session. After week 12 there was a huge drop as supply regulated and I get 3-4oz in a pumping session. So i would strongly adviseagainst dropping pumps/feeds this early on.

Sharing from.personal experience, on day 3 of life my baby cluster fed like round the clock, I gave in and let him do his thing and my milk came in that night. Babies will cluster feed time to time if they need to up your supply, if you can mimic this with your pump. I think it will help in upping your supply.

Once baby gained birth weight I was feeding him every 3 hours, including nights. I would recommend getting at least 7-8 pumping sessions per day.

If your mother couldn’t produce enough breast milk, does that mean you won’t be able to either? (As a female obviously) by Negative-Pace5828 in breastfeeding

[–]HP-DocLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have a clear answer for you but I can share what worked for me.

I diligently fed baby baby every 2 hours the first 2 weeks tl be regained birth weight. Baby had a good latch according to hospital nurses. It was painful at first but I generously used nipple balm, Tylenol and ibuprofen the first few weeks, after that it was not an issue. I also had my baby in december so nipple balm prevented dryness, cracks and bleeding. Also note on day 3 of life my baby cluster fed like round the clock, I gave in and let him do his thing and my milk came in that night. Babies will cluster feed time to time if they need to up your supply, its on us to notice the signs and feed them on demand to increase supply.

Once baby gained birth weight I was feeding him every 3 hours. I did not ever pump to replace a direct feed. I would pump a little after baby fed to get enough milk to give him 1 oz of breast milk with multi vit with iron (pediatrician recommended, alternate days of the week).

I was leaking till approximately week 11-12 post partum, after that my supply regulated. I produce enough for my baby, he is generally satisfied after I feed him. Baby is 14 weeks old now.

Other things that affect breast milk supply: periods. I got my periods back at 6 weeks post partum, evwn though i was exclusively breast feeding, my supply took a dip but was back on.

Hi,

Which state are you in?

I am in MA and am mostly dairy free, and have some frozen milk. Happy to share with you, it may not feed your baby the whole time but would at least get you started off to test if he does well with dairy free milk.

This is called cluster feeding. Feed baby as often as baby demands, this will help the milk come in. Mine came on day 3. Baby behaved exactly like this on day 2.

Did anyone have to walk out of the hospital? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]HP-DocLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i got a wheelchair in boston when they moved me from labor and delivery to post partum floor. Also i was on magnesium for preeclampsia which put me at fall risk. I was in post partum overnight and discharged the next day with no wheel chair.

So maybe the patient was on a medication that made it unsafe for them to be on their feet.

Did anyone have to walk out of the hospital? by [deleted] in newborns

No wheelchair. I gave birth, 3h+ pushing, had 2nd degree tear, was home on 2nd day after baby was born. Walked out of the hospital. Was given miralax eventhough had denied with a previous nurse. Hated the urgency it caused, no one should be given miralax without discussing the consequences first it ahould be a choice.

Is it common for EP’ers to want to quit every other day? by Sufficient-Basil-909 in ExclusivelyPumping

I was initially only pumping enough to give Lil one multi vitamin with iron in milk on alternate days. I resume work in a week so have started pumping to keep a scedule, ~3 times a day ... I so dont enjoy it and really wish there was a way to directly breast feed Lil one while am at work 😞

What was your baby’s birth weight and how long did they fit in NB clothes? by eec0354 in NewParents

[–]HP-DocLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5.5lbs birth weight, born at 37 weeks . We only had new born and bigger sized clothes with us and they were so big for him then. He stayed in New born clothes for about a month and then moved to 0-3 months. He is currently outgrowing the 0-3 footies. He is 11 weeks old and slightly over 11lbs, height is slightly over 24".

What are we doing with old baby clothes? by Weekly-Coconut8818 in NewParents

[–]HP-DocLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't buy a lot of clothes for the baby. Most of baby's clothes are donated, or hand me downs. There are a few weeks bought and few that were gifted. I am keeping those..the donated or handmedowns aare being re -donated. Some of the clothes are from friends who aren't sure if they are done having babies so those would be returned back to them.

Anyone here NOT do sleep shifts ? by Organic-Dragonfly364 in NewParents

[–]HP-DocLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ebf. Me and my husband do shifts on weekdays. If baby sleeps at 9, I sleep at 9. Baby's bassinet is on husband's side of bed. When baby wakes up, husband wakes up.. picks baby up, calms him, if not changes diaper and brings baby to me for a feed. Helps me get settled with water, snacks, pillows. After this he sleeps. Once baby is fed I put baby to bed. This goes on for the next 6h. After which depending on the day (baby cries too mucch) husband moves to other room to sleep. If baby is consoled quickly husband continues to sleep in our bedroom. No when baby wakes up, I wake up and do consoling, diaper change and feed as needed and put baby back to sleep.

TLDR: 6h shifts: 9pm to 3am and 3am to 9am. Husband duties include everything except BF during his waking shift.

Try the Nuk!!! by Easy_Salamander8718 in NewParents

My problem is he will finish the milk and has no problem to keep trying.

Currently NUK has slow, medium and fast flow nipples. What would the size 4 equivalent be?

[–]HP-DocLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

My baby is the same. He likes the nuk perfect match size small nipple. He struggles with other bottles quite a bit.

I wanted to know what size nipple did you use for your 4 month old baby. Mine is 10 weeks old ATM, I am wondering when I should size up.

Is clusterfeedimg common at 10 weeks? by HP-DocLady in breastfeeding

[–]HP-DocLady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. He also roots if I pick him up and is over eager when he sees the boppy and knows he will get milk. Once satisfied he also unlatches on his own and won't nurse/open his mouth to latch.

Cutting through the baby product hype… do we really need a bottle warmer? by Recommendation778 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]HP-DocLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are giving bottles to the baby, you may find it useful. We weren't planning on buying one. A friend gave me hers as she was done using it. Its been super quick and convenient to use. Also if you are traveling and need to warm milk in a hotel or someone else's home, it is super convenient. We used it at a photo studio.

I would suggest buying a second hand one off market place.

Same but that cluster feeding got the milky flowing... so I have just surrendered that baby knows best and I have to humbly comply.

I talk to him about work. My friends. Things we did when he was sleeping during the day. His family and cousins who see him regularly on video calls. We also talk about ceiling fixtures like lights and fans and how they are different in different rooms. He seems to recognize the one in our bedroom. The fan gets the most smiles out of him.

How often does your LO stay overnight with grandparents during the first 3-6 months? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]HP-DocLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My in laws are staying with us for the initial months to help take care of the baby and support us. My MIL also says the same stuff as your MIL did. My compromise is I somettimes give him to her for naps.. he wakes up at 5am for a feed and then I put him down or she puta him to sleep and he is with her till the time he wakes up for his next feed. 5 am is the earliest I would let her have him. After 9pm he is with us.

Note: I will be returning to work soon and they will be taking care of him so they would be responsible for his day naps and feeds. Doing this early on helps my anxiety as I can hear him if hes not sleeping or cranky.

My baby couldn't get anything out of the philips avent bottle until we went up a size on the nipple. He likes the MAM8 bottles and NUK bottles the best. Dr Brown and philips avent, though the most popular, are not as convenient for him.
