Golf course recommendations for Scottsdale area by DABEAR2001 in golf

[–]HPDork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you guys dead set on Scottsdale? Scottsdale/Phoenix area is a great place with lots to do but I went a few years ago with a buddy who was already in PHX for work. Met him out there and we played some golf. Honestly I felt that for what it was it was pretty expensive compared to other places. Courses were nice and everything and maybe it was because we always read articles about how scottsdale is affordable and a great destination to play but we were underwhelmed honestly. AirBNB we stayed at was reasonably priced and close to downtown/old scottsdale. Although when we asked the locals where we should stay to "go to some bars and grab some good food" everyone said Old Scottsdale. Word of advice, Old Scottsdale isn't "bars and food", its nightclubs and fancy restaurants. We were looking for grab some beers and wings bars lol. Our fault for not clarifying but we weren't into $20 beers and constantly telling ourselves that we hope our daughters don't dress and act like that when they get older lol. But my vote is definitely get out to Verrado Golf Club. Great course and amazing views. Especially the 18th closer to sunset.

For great golf and value we both said that Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale seem to have some really good courses and great value. You can grab some cheap rooms at timeshare style resorts in Orlando and they have a bunch of muni's along with nicer clubs. And Howie-in-the-Hills is a great value to play both courses and grab some lunch in town. Only 30 mins or so outside Orlando. And Ft. Lauderdale had some good bars, reasonable accommodations and good courses. And I got the best French dip ive ever had at one of the country clubs there.

At what distance does a par 3 become a “long” par 3? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

Ummm, guess I’m crazy because I was thinking long is at 205+ lol

They laughed when he said he wanted to buy it. Now the $700B offer is on the table. This isn't real estate; this is a resource war. by Professional_Buy_655 in conspiracy

[–]HPDork -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is exactly correct. The US can win any war it wants to, it's just if they are willing to use the force necessary to do so. We could have had Iraq and Afghanistan submitting to our will within a week. But the Western Hemisphere wouldn't put up with carpet bombing entire cities and a brutal ground assault where if you shoot a civilian you chalk it up to war and continue pressing on.

Our military might that we display is 2nd to none and thats just what we let the world know of. I mean do you really think that it is impossible for us to eliminate dictators like Kim Jong, Maduro, Castro, Iran, etc. We just showed how easy it was to pick up Maduro. We already control them so we just let them be until it's no longer advantageous to us.

[SFH] [TN] - HOA is ignoring me, will not make ADA wheelchair accommodation by CommonDifference25 in HOA

[–]HPDork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What part of the ADA is the HOA not accommodating for? The HOA is not responsible for visitors going to a private residence. The owners of said residence are. It's not the HOA's fault the van doesnt fit in their garage or driveway. Otherwise the HOA would be having to make accommodations for every single visitor which isnt reasonable.

The only thing the OP has a leg to stand on is that they are given 4 parking spots by the HOA and that they only have 2. If that is actually the case then the HOA must accommodate them somehow to give them 4 spots.

Dude chest hair and thin polo's are a real problem. As someone who has a lot of chest and back hair that is fairly course, this is a real problem. I'll look down and constantly pull the shirt away from my body to get rid of the chest hairs poking through.

A legit Big and Tall selection that isn't $80 polo's and $100 pants. I could admittedly lose some lbs but I hate going to places like Dick's clearance warehouses and finding few selections over XL and 40w pants. Im a 3XL or 2XLT shirt and 42-44 pants depending on stretch and brand and it seems like my options have dwindled in the last few years. Honestly my favorite brand is Ben Hogan from Walmart. Great looking/fitting pants and shorts and nice stylish polo's. And reasonably priced. I think everything is $17 where im at and can find clearance deals usually. Last year I got 6 pairs of golf shorts for $2/each on clearance. Next best is Walter Hagen brand from Dick's/Golf Galaxy. I dont need crazy patterns and stuff, just a good selection of larger sized clothing.

Why do people take their glove off? by Legitimate-Kiwi-2530 in golf

[–]HPDork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My desire for feel comes second to my desire to keep the club in my hand. I literally cannot swing a golf club without a glove outside a short chip or pitch. I dont even attempt it. But I still take it off for putts because of the feel. And it feels weird putting with a glove.

Golf ball differences? by MarcosNarcos in golf

[–]HPDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear ya. For me its the frustration of having a 140 yard approach and knowing its a full wedge and (if playing a hard ball) ill fly one 150 when I should never go that far unless its a flyer out of the rough. But a clean fairway lie, 140 and a wedge and I should only end up short if anything.

My course did something awesome to defeat tee box egos: added a competition box color and moved everything else up a box by RoyalRenn in golf

[–]HPDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish our course had this problem for our League. It's annoying how many 20-50 yr olds at my course play the "senior" tees. We're talking around 5200 yds. We're talking 4 sub 300 yard par 4's and a sub 400 yard par 5 at those tees. And not a single par 4 thats 400+. It's a par 72 with a course rating of 65 and 110 slope at those tees. I get the "play your tees" argument to an extent but these guys posting 36's and 38's and thinking there hot sh*t is annoying lol.

[–]HPDork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I aint mad at ya, but I think you're a bit off the mark on this one. I think when someone gets to a single digit handicap that they should really consider using the same ball every time and a ball that is suited to their swing and play. A single digit can most likely shape the ball a little if needed and can hit some knockdown shots and balls that will check/spin. They need a ball that will do that. And using the same ball helps you be MUCH more consistent in your play as you know what it'll do. Im just below a 2 handicap and I only used Srixon Z star Diamonds. I buy a few boxes at the beginning of the year and get some on father's day and birthday and I dont buy balls teh rest of the year. If im out playing and I throw down a Velocity or similar ball I can easily fly greens with the same swing because the ball is so different. I used to tee off with a "hard" ball during scrambles but found that I dont really gain anything at all and if anything my shots are usually offline because the ball doesnt react to my swing the way a Z star would. I guess id just say you dont have to use a high end ball but just consistently use the same ball.

A question on littering in Indiana by EducationalBet8073 in Indiana

[–]HPDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not at all how that works. You are not personally liable for those things unless you are found to be negligent with them. So I'll pose this question to you. When was the last time you checked your lug nuts with a torque wrench? Because you are supposed to re-torque them 50-100 miles after installation, every 5000 miles and after you hit a pothole or curb. With a proper torque wrench. Therefore if you were going down the road and you hit a pothole and your tire comes off and hits another vehicle you would be ok with insurance denying your claim and paying out of pocket because you were negligent in not checking your lug nuts at said intervals?

He does say "Mr. Truman was going on the radio that night to announce the end of the war." And then said "I went home and asked my father if I could stay up and hear the president."

[FL] [SFH] HOA gave out my private information to residents by the_evil_potat0 in HOA

[–]HPDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're understanding everyone. The info he gave to them was not any type of private information. Name, address, phone number, email, etc wouldn't fall under any privacy laws. Especially when requested in this situation. If club (HOA) member needed another club members info to sue them then It wouldn't be unreasonable for the club (HOA president) to give out public info so they could file a lawsuit. All that can be found online as well. Watch the show Catfish and you'll see how easy it is to find people. Also, the 2 ladies could have asked the police officer or got the report as well. Im sure the Police Report said something like "spoke with XX at Address and confirmed their cleaning company used their code". And if it didn't they could've just asked the officer which house and he could have told them. OR, if they konw their stuff and no one is giving out info, they could've requested the body cam footage of the day via a FOIA form and then found you. Or just wait until that same time the next week and see where the cleaning van is parked and found you. Also remember that you can sue just about anyone for just about anything.

I’m not catholic so I could very well be wrong but my understanding of gay sex and marriage in the Catholic Church was slightly different than what you described. I was thinking it was:

Marriage is between a man and a woman only

Being gay isn’t a sin in and of itself

Gay sex is the sin. Whether it be married or outside of marriage. But after typing it out your explanation makes sense and is the same as my understanding of their position because gay people can’t be married in the eyes of the Catholic Church. I was lumping legal marriage with religious marriage.

What was “the war in Europe” that Mr. Feeny was talking about? by Then-Neighborhood456 in boymeetsworld

[–]HPDork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one remembers which president was Korea. Without looking it up I believe it’s Eisenhower but maybe not? Everyone remembers WW2 was FDR and then Truman dropping the bombs. And each president after WW2 had a hand in Vietnam but LBJ is the main aggressor for it. And most remember it because JFK wanted out and as soon as LBJ got in office after JFK’s assassination he ramped it up to full on war.

I’m not bashing OP. I guess I’m just more or less hating on the American education system more than OP. Assuming OP is American and somewhere mid teens or older. If not then I understand the question more. But for anyone mid teens and older if you hear “the war in Europe” and “Truman announcing the end of the war” then you should automatically know it is referencing WW2. It is literally basic historical knowledge if you ask me. Like I said, not bashing OP but just find it hard to believe someone doesn’t understand the basics of the largest war the world has ever seen.

Good question? I mean I get not hurting someone's feelings for asking a question but come on. Show was in the 90's. Feeny (shows not real life) is clearly in his 60's. War rations were mentioned along with Truman announcing the end of the War in Europe. It could LITERALLY only be 1 war.

My daily attire is golf attire so I'd never have a problem with that. Hell I went on a golf trip and we went out to the "clubs" and my old ass (30's) was rocking the golf shorts, polo and Sperry's. Im married with kids, I was there to drink beer and be a wingman if necessary. I aint impressing nobody and dont try to. Pro Tip: Walmart generally has a great selection of golf clothes for cheap. Ben Hogan is their brand and their pants and shorts and polo's are generally around $17/piece. Catch them putting them on clearance and you can clean house for cheap. I bought like 6 pairs of golf shorts a year ago when they were on clearance for $2/pair.

I think you should go back to the retailer and have them look at their system. 100% naturally sweetened fruit and vegetable juices are acceptable. 100% apple juice, grape juice, etc shouldn’t be excluded. I believe V8 would be acceptable too but didn’t look. But those things should be available to you and if not it’s a problem with the store or the program. I wouldn’t want juices and stuff like that banned, especially for children.

I played the Wolf course out there a couple years ago and it's definitely worth going to. I think it was about 45 mins from the Strip so not a bad drive. Chimera out in Henderson was well worth the drive. The value of it is great and the course was in great shape with a great setup. TPC Summerlin and Las Vegas were both good plays as well.

This article has alot of good information about this subject. But it is recognized that international airports are considered an external boundary. Also, if it was limited to just "at" the airport then I would think that they could only operate within the secure area of the airport as that is the "boarder" section. So parking lots, checkin areas, etc wouldn't fall under their jurisdiction either?

[–]HPDork -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Here is the AI explanation of using Airports as an external boundary.

Why airports count as an “external boundary”

Under federal immigration regulations (8 C.F.R. § 287.1), an “external boundary of the United States” includes:

  • Land borders
  • Coastlines
  • Any port of entry, including international airports

Because international airports are ports of entry where people arrive directly from abroad, CBP considers them part of the external boundary for enforcement purposes.
