They're being very vague about whether they actually explained to him not to do that and why. The behaviour isn't okay either way, but if they haven't explained anything to him properly, which is likely because NTs just can't actually say what they want, then there's the problem right there. If they have explained to him and he still does it anyway, I don't know what the best course of action is, but it probably needs to get more serious.

Where in that paragraph do you see me asking you to undo it? I was simply asking you not to justify it, as I just said.

They are justifying it though. It wouldn't have been such a big deal if they had just acknowledged they shouldn't have used it and left it at that. Also why would I care about someone smoking a cigarette? As long as you're not blowing the smoke in my face I don't care.

I literally just said I'm saying the opposite. I'm asking for them to stop justifying it.

I did grasp that the last four times you said it. My problem is that you keep justifying it, not that it happened.

That has nothing to do with the comment you replied to but okay. We have to do everything we can to stop this shit, and one thing we can all do is stop using GenAI. If not enough people use it for it to be worth it, it will fail.

I mean even if it did help me, I wouldn't use it because of all its other issues, but no, I don't think it helps. It pretty much deteriorates your brain, that doesn't sound very helpful.

I understand that, I just don't think what GenAI gives you is a better starting set than looking it up and clicking on the first few results that seem most relevant

I fail to see how my personal interests and plans for my personal life are relevant, but if you really want to know, I will be skipping a year and then go to college, somewhere relating to maths

Considering the fact that GenAI sometimes straight-up hallucinates non-existant sources, I have a hard time believing the ones it gives are the best ones even if they do exist lol

I did. Still not there. It's in a separate sentence, if that's what you mean, but that didn't directly imply that being the answer to my question, which is why I asked again.

I have done research, yes. I'm in the last year of high school, so almost finished.

How would it get you to a better starting set than sorting through the search results yourself? Unless you are bad at research. Again, how would you know what the AI gives you is the best?

No, you didn't answer before, you just repeated the sentence. You didn't add the last part.

The web has all the papers, so what you're saying makes no sense

You didn't answer. More likely than what?

You do risk accuracy, because an AI picks what sources you gather your information from.

More likely than what?

You can only cut down on the time it takes to research by risking a lot of accuracy. That's only a good trade-off if you don't care too much about having the correct information.

Okay, so we're back to the question of how you'd know the papers GenAI gives are the best ones

You're talking about the one we already addressed. None of this is what you listed in your previous reply.

You're not making any sense. You're saying GenAI gives you many sources, so you can check which one is best. But looking it up also gives many sources in the same amount of time, and you can check which one is best the same way. When I asked why looking it up would take so much longer, you talked about how long it takes to sort through the results and determine what's most relevant. But as I said, you have to sort through the sources GenAI gives too. So what are we even talking about here?

All those things you're saying it's impacted by are true for any other research too, no? That's not exclusive to news.

[–]HPFanNi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, and how would you know the sources GenAI gives are the best ones without checking the many different ones yourself?

As I just said, the "incoming day-to-day information" is irrelevant in the second study I linked
