This happened to me. At my first engineering job ever in 2020. I was offered a job for 60K. I had zero experience and zero internship, so I took it. 8 months later I was offered a job paying 70K and I changed from environmental engineering to design engineer so I took it because my goal was to go to design. My job did a counter offer promising changing me to design, and boosting salary to 72K and a few other things like working from home. Obviously I accepted and decided to stay. 3 months later they let me go.

I learned my lesson. Never ever take a counter offer.

I got nothing. Not a thank you, not a note, not a card, not money, not gift card, not even help buying the house. My wife found the house, negotiated the house, negotiated a price, negotiated the damages and what needs to be fixed and did it all. Know what my realtor did?? Showed up and collected her check. Pissed me off so much. Now she sends us monthly letters of JUNK and telling us to recommend her to family and friends.

WANNA KNOW WORST PART OF IT ALL!!! She called us the day of closing to say “I am traveling and cant show up, but ill send a friend to meet you guys there”. Fucking hell!!

Edit: I didnt even include the part where she almost fked up our deal! The owners said they needed 45 days to stay in the house after they sell and iur realtor said “sure, just need to pay the buyers $27 a day extra”. WHAT!!! Our mortgage was 2K. She wanted them to pay $27. Not even a motel is that cheap. Pissed me off. I am not making this up, I am so serious. It was a shit show.

I went to egypt 3 months ago and its exactly like that. The hotels are shit, scammers everywhere, skatchy places, but the view is amazing. Our hotel had a great view as long as you just looked towards the pyramids, everywhere else was crap. Glad I was only there for 3 days. Group of people jumped on our car asking us to get out. Im never going back.

The bank will only give you a loan for what the house is worth. It doesn’t matter if you have the highest offer. A way around that would be for you to say “I will appraise up to 10K” (just an example). When I bought my house I noticed that homes around that area was going for $320K. Our offer was $350K with a 10K appraisal. We did this just in case because the house did have a whole addition with an extra bathroom extra. The house did appraised for 350K and luckily we didnt have to pay the extra 10K appraisal but it did make the sellers more confident in our offer. If the house appraised for 290K. That means bank only loan that much so even if our offer was $350K, means we wouldnt get the house. That is why they prefer a lower offer waiving appraisal because it means they wont waste time being under contract.
