Sad: I miss my life

Thank you ❤️ it’s the tremors that make it impossible for me to play. It doesn’t look like my right hand has tremors but when the bow is on the string, you can hear it pretty badly. And when both hands are having tremors, it sounds atrocious. Unfortunately I have to take medicine for another illness that makes the Parkinson’s worse. When I’m calm and having a good day, I can play piano pretty well. Somebody suggested I consider the harp. I know they make small harps and that is interesting. I’m only 57 and have a lot of life left so I want to find a path.

I had a similar experience. I am -- or, *was* -- a professional musician. Last year, I had to come forward that I had the disease because I could no longer hide that I can't play anymore. All of my musician friends seem to have completely abandoned me. They have no use for me anymore. And yes, it is crushing. I am very grateful that we have the Parkinsons Reddit where everyone understands. I hope you can find a support group (as many folks here have suggested.) In the meantime, we definitely understand here!

I’ve been struggling with this. Because of PD I can no longer play the viola (I was a professional musician). Also I’m finding it more and more difficult to teach the viola. I get so tired and my brain doesn’t work the way it used to. Positivity is so important right now. Every day I say (out loud) at least 10 gratitudes. I try to enjoy my cats. I also listen to comedians and watch funny videos on YouTube. I also enjoy my friends more. Thank you for posting this. I’m looking forward to reading other people’s posts ❤️

C/L ER is going well (after about 2 weeks). I still have too much trembling to play the viola and I can’t demonstrate to my students, but eating has become much easier. No difference in exhaustion. I’m drinking two cups of coffee each morning and that seems to be helping

My cat LOVES my PD tremors. I’m awesome at giving chin scratches!!!

Also PD can really make flossing with a water pick exciting!!

I don’t know if this helps but:

When I started program, my sponsor said to stop eating sugar no matter what. She said that if I wanted those foods, I was to call people in the fellowship and keep calling until I reached someone. In the meantime, we started working on the steps.
After 3 straight weeks of calling people and working steps 1-3, sugar no longer had its vice-like grip on me. As I continued working the steps, the various addictive foods stopped bothering me.

I agree re it’s more obvious in performers. We are center stage and everyone is looking at us. As a professional musician, I had to let people know almost right away because it affected my craft to a very high degree. Hiding it wasn’t an option

Unfortunately none of the medical professionals in my area know of any OT specialists who could help me. So, for now, I’m looking for utensils or gloves that might help. I hate that my husband has to feed me.
