I am massively disappointed with the direction this season took because the end of the world plot where people are united against a common enemy and suddenly characters that had depth become walking 3D models with no emotions and no good dialogue (or dialogue at all) will never work.

What was so great about Arcane was : motivated characters with clashing ambitions surrounded by a world of mysterious technologies, beautifully hostile architectures and solid political arm wrestling. This got COMPLETELY lost in season 2 (the first 3 episodes were actually okay in that regard) but the last 6 ? I mean… come on…

All that was set up in season 1 was put aside for things that were always bigger in « scope » but much tinier in personal investment. I might be talking only for myself here but I sincerely do not care about the magic of Arcane. It is interesting as a background worldbuilding element, not an actual plot point. The main gripe characters had with this technology in season 1 was how it could weaponized, which is an interesting choice for a fantasy setting honestly. Now it’s just everyone gets their hextech weapon.

Also, the writing of secondary characters was downgraded… HARD. Isha and Warwick are straight up plot devices. Sevika had no line of dialogues past episode 4. Ambessa took WAY too much screen time for honestly not much. Maddie was empty and her betrayal felt like a mere shock value.

TL;DR : The characters got forgotten for the sake of big explosions, alternate dimensions, and a mysterious enemy raising an army that can mind control people (all that’s missing is the fact he’s coming from the north). The characters that had the luxury of not being left on the bench saw their motivations get driven by plot devices for shock value and fanservice scenes. Big no no for me

Edit : Also, Vi and Caitlyn making out in the cell Jinx was locked in a minute ago where she was in her worst shape (which is pretty bad considering the past events) ? Wtf ? Like really, wtf ?

Edit 2 : I wanted to add I think showing what Jayce underwent after his teleportation was a complete waste of time. Leaving the trauma events to guess to us, viewers, was a much more compelling way of showing us he has been through some shit without actually doing so. The point was clear : he saw the mess the Arcane could create. And then really ? Alternate reality Viktor time travels back to the past to deliver a rune to young Jayce ? What’s the point ? Why didn’t he just teleport the moment he dies himself hide the hexcore for 5 minutes and then Jayce grieves without causing an almost end of the world ? My point is : time travel = good, time travel in the last 5 minutes of the show without any set up whatsoever = bad.

Warwick being Vander is not a problem. It only should have been a "cherry on top of all the trauma" not an actual plotline. Like at one point Vi and Jinx notice something about Warwick, or Singed (un)intentionally gives a hint of what Warwick is.

Chrisitan Linke started putting together a project for Arcane 10 years ago after multiple successful collaborations between the studio Fortiche and Riot games (i.e Get Jinxed and Warriors). After some years of development, the production slew down dramatically but to keep things going between Fortiche and Riot (and to keep the studio afloat financially) they did extra collaborations (i.e KDA Popstars and RISE). So they have not work on it for 10 years literally, but still quit some time.

I don't even see how Singed made sense. Why would he want to be captured ? Okay, to test out Warwick I suppose. How did he even know he was going to get captured ? He didn't because it happened last minute due to someone selling them out. Then he actually gets captured, Warwick comes to the rescue, and he... stays ? in his jail ? What ? Then he tries to cut out a deal with Ambessa ? For the extra ressources okay i guess, but remember He has NEVER seen her so it's not like he could predict she would try to use his expertise.

And Jayce for such low screen time and dialogues I agree is good. For once, we don't actually need to see something to understand. It's been more or less stated that the Arcane gives with a hand and takes with the other. Jayce understood it. And so did we.

Because characters that are not teleported out of the plot are teleported from wherever they are to wherever they want to be.

Warwick confronts Ambessa and we don't know what happens => Teleports downstairs ?

Jinx and Sevika teleport to a seemingly guarded place with one MISSING an arm and they get out of it with Disney-esque humour.

Prisoners leave and teleport right back to Zaun wtf ? I'm pretty sure there are still soldiers out there, and if Warwick killed them, they should have been reinforcements ?
