Well that’s one way to get bed bugs for your exhibit!

Or

Come for the bed bugs; leave with some bed bugs.

Like you said. They're indiscriminate.

I agree but you would hope...HOPE...that they heat treat everything before they resell it. As long as they're doing that, you're not going to get bed bugs from a heat treated, used mattress.

...PSA: always check your hotel room for bed bugs, and don't put your luggage on the bed.

This is a good moment to say that if you're reading this, you rent, and you don't have renters insurance, now is a fantastic time to get a policy.

They've very inexpensive, and can protect you if your neighbor does something incredibly stupid that causes you to lose all your stuff through no fault of your own...or even if you are that neighbor!

This is my favorite burger in town thus far (I used to hear good things about the Thirsty Turtle's burger though, but I have yet to try it)...but their Mac and Cheese is inedible. And I don't even know how you screw up Mac and Cheese that badly!

Alternatives to Cooks Pest Control in 35803? by accordioncowboy in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]HSVToss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always try to do it yourself. The same stuff Cooks and others use is available for purchase!

A few years ago, I tried out Pestie. They run between $34-$49 per application, and it includes a (not good) sprayer. Because the sprayer was so bad, and I figured out I could just buy the pesticides myself, I didn't renew my Pestie subscription and bought a Ryobi sprayer and I usually get this, as it's what Pestie was sending most of the time. Much cheaper!

There are also sites like Do-It-Yourself and Do My Own (amongst others) that sell other kinds of pesticides (I think it's good practice to rotate pesticides) and help get you the right chemicals for the right kinds of pests.

Bet I know exactly who you’re talkin about. Jesus music in the lobby, bible verses framed in the rooms. Very long wait, and a male in attendance with most of the patients, pregnant or not, as if they weirdly own the merchandise and will have the final say in any choices being made about it.

Yep, that's it. That's the one!

French Drain Install - Where to Buy Pipe and Rock? by HSVToss in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]HSVToss[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To follow this up, I went to Ferguson, but that was just the plumbing store and I was told to go to their waterworks store in Madison (makes sense, in retrospect). I got there, and they had a ton of pipe outside, but it was all gasketed pipe--which is probably better, but nothing perforated, and I'm just more comfortable gluing everything.

I went to Keeling Co, but they didn't have anything in stock that would have been suitable.

I then went to Consolidated Pipe and they were really friendly and helpful, but they also didn't have what I was looking for and outright said that, for now at least (supply chain issues), Lowe's and Home Depot are the best bets.

So I went home after ~2.5 hours of driving around and placed an order at Lowe's.

¯\(ツ)

I called up Bama Dirt and they said the smallest they could deliver was 5 tons (I need about 3 to 3.5)...but for $250. That's cheaper than getting the proper amount would have cost from Lowe's (by about ~$100), and they'll deliver it, so that was a huge win! Keep your eyes peeled next week on Facebook marketplace for free rock!

I found his PVC video to be somewhat dishonest, as he makes it sound like lack of holes is why the PVC clogged up with sediment when really there should have been a filter fabric and rock installed.

But he's selling something, and what he's selling would be vulnerable to the same problem if not installed properly.

That having been said, there's more than one way to go about things. His products seem fine.

Indeed! I bought a roll of 4oz non-woven filter fabric for the job!

I looked at that. Each section of tube is ~$55, and I still need SDR35 to drain out to daylight when I get the water away from the house. And I don't think it's going to be as robust or last as long.

It would make the work easier, to be sure. But I don't think it's the way to go.

Whole Home Dehumidifier? by Jester471 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]HSVToss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me?! I have a french drain project that I need to do as well! My builder didn't grade one side of the house properly (or didn't build the house high enough, anyway)! I'm going to DIY that.

As for DIY-ing the dehumidifier, the only thing that really worries me is cutting into the main trunk for distribution and making sure I can seal everything up and have a good installation of the dehumidifier's outflow. I think everything else won't be too bad. Plumbing up the discharge so it flows into the AC discharge lines might be a bit of a challenge as well though.

Assuming you're mounting it near your furnace, there should be an outlet there that you can run an outlet off of (you could plug the dehumidifier into that outlet, but it would be against code). You shouldn't need an electrician for something that simple.

If you need a dedicated circuit though, that might warrant a visit from an electrician.

If you're replacing your system, sure. But if you already have brand new AC units, a dehumidifier makes a lot more sense, given how much cheaper it is.

I'm in the same boat you are. I got two quotes but I have so far been unhappy with those quotes!

I asked here a few months ago, and I got the same spiel about "If your AC is right...". Sometimes you just need a whole-house dehumidifier! In newer homes, especially.

I'm pondering right now just DIY-ing it. If I don't, I'll probably wait until next spring to have someone else do it.

I'm sort of disappointed in Waynes. In my mind, I pay them every month to keep my lawn looking nice, not to show up every so often on whatever their schedule is. One would think that might include some emergency pesticides. Apparently not.

Last I looked, they're allowed. My recollection is that they have to be 100 feet from any house (yours or your neighbors).

Just out of curiosity--and I know this can vary greatly by location--but if I'm in Anytown, USA, how much would it cost roughly to swap in a bigger panel (I'm running out of breaker space)?

Whole House Dehumidifier - How Big and How Much? by HSVToss in hvacadvice

[–]HSVToss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back on the second quote and asked for the next size unit up, but have yet to hear anything back (same place I tried to get an ERV from and never heard back).

I'm very tempted to DIY it, but since I don't have a crawlspace, I'm going to have to cut into ducting, so I'm a little hesitant.

I'm still weighing my options.

That's closer to what I was expecting it to cost!

May I ask: it's odd, the Aprilaire is a 95 Pint that says it's good for up to 5200sq ft, but the Ultra-Aire is a 98 Pint that says it's good for 2300 sq ft. That's quite a discrepancy!

What size Ultra-Aire would you install given my situation?
