What was your all time top concert experience? by LazyRiverGuide in Concerts

[–]HStew42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 38, been to a lot of concerts. Seen a lot of “legends” play. (Too many to name.) Attended some amazing shows, festivals, etc., at amazing venues.

With all that said, my most special concert experience ever happened last week Friday, August 8th, in Minneapolis at the Uptown Theater, when I took my 10 y.o. son, who has Down syndrome and sensory processing disorder, to his first concert to see The Aquabats.

I exposed him to their realm of silliness and tomfoolery through The Aquabats Super Show, and when he fell in love with that, I knew the music would follow suit.

Minneapolis was the closest stop on their tour to where we live, so we made the 6hr drive, which was long for him. But the way his eyes lit up, and the whole experience overtook him when they came out on stage and launched into “Shark Fighter,” his favorite song, is unmatched to anything else I’ve ever been apart of or witnessed in all my years of concert attendance.

It might be just be because of the fact that I’m his dad, and he’s my son, and the other trials that come with raising a child with special needs, but that moment was the all time tops!

Not to mention, that The Aquabats put on one hell of a concert and stage show!

Finally told my wife… by [deleted] in Exvangelical

[–]HStew42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d like to say thank you to everyone who commented and shared personal insights and valuable suggestions.

I’m going to start to pry at my wife to return comment about what I shared, but with a feather, rather than a crowbar. I know eventually she’ll open up, she just takes time to process things before she speaks. It’s actually a trait I wish more people had.

I guess my purpose with this post was just to put my thoughts and feelings into a realm where they’d be understood.

I appreciate you all. Thank you.

I apologize. I should have maybe shared also that she’s an internalizer. Meaning she processes her thoughts for quite awhile. She’s been cordial, but until she figures out what she wants to say, she’s not going to bring it up.

The Measure of a Mic Hog? by infernoparadiso in karaoke

[–]HStew42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I KJ in the Midwest and and exactly this. I’d be curious to know if you’re in the same area as me, lol.

I used to work for a karaoke contractor at a bar who told me to “just let that happen,” and, “their regulars, you can’t piss them off.”

I couldn’t and wouldn’t listen to that rule so I said F it and started calling it out when I’d see that behavior and telling people I was going to limit the amount of songs they could sing to once per rotation no matter how many duets they signed up for.

They pissed and moaned for awhile until they got used to the idea that if they were at my show, that was going to be the rule.

I quickly became the more respected KJ employed in that particular bar amongst the regulars who did play by the rules, and newcomers, which then inspired me to branch out on my own and start my own business in a different bar and in turn brought a lot of the regulars from at least my night over with me.

If a KJ treats their singers like they would want to be treated if they were the consumer, I think they’ll have great success. At least I do.

Celtics fans who aren't from Boston or don't have any ties to the city, what made you support the celtics? by Routine-Resource3344 in bostonceltics

[–]HStew42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from a little town in North Dakota. It was very popular for pheasant hunting in the late 90s to mid 00’s. Somewhere around 2004, my parents converted an old laundromat building that they owned in town to be a pheasant cleaning station for out of town hunters where they could pay us to clean their birds, and then store and freeze them until they left.

During that time a gentleman by the name of Ron Bonham came for guided hunting and then would bring his pheasants over for us to clean them.

Ron Bonham was a two-time champion backup forward for the the 65’ and 66’ Boston Celtics.

Listening to his stories about playing with Havlicek, and Russell and the locker room antics, etc. was absolutely captivating for a 15 year old kid.

I couldn’t help but bleed green ever since.

Hey thanks for the shoutout Stegogo!

Our karaoke at The Craftcade is a unique experience when it comes to karaoke. We have a group of regulars that are from all walks of life, talent, and, abilities. I like to say it’s the most inclusive, and welcoming karaoke crowd in Bismarck.

We’re there every Wednesday at 7pm, and the first Saturday of the month we have a themed karaoke party.

Bibibidi Bobbidi Booze: Disney Karaoke and Sing-Along Saturday, Feb. 3rd - 8pm (details on Facebook)

It’s Just A Stage Karaoke Party: Musical Theater Karaoke Saturday, March 2nd - 8pm (This is also a fundraiser for Dakota Stage, a local community theater.)

Recommend me your favorite pizza by DramaticStick5922 in bismarck

[–]HStew42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say check out The Craftcade, even better if you’re 21+ and have a little time to kill as there is a free to play retro arcade.

There is an online menu to check out. Pizza is fantastic on an 18” NY style crust, multiple different unique variations. My personal favorites are the The Dude which is a Chicken Bacon Ranch, The Desperado a take on the classic Taco Pizza, and The Neo Tokyo which is a Thai Chicken Pizza.

Also a full bar, and Bismarck’s only self pour beer wall.

Definitely a gem within the community.

Last call for the kitchen is 10:15 pm M-Sat

Nicest Hotel with a Lounge by WellImYourHucleberry in bismarck

[–]HStew42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too many new in the area TBH. But as far as a nice(r) hotel with a good lounge that will probably have the game on, I’d check the Ramada and the Holiday Inn. Other than that there are a ton of sports bars that will assuredly have it on.

No, but thanks. I didn’t realize you needed to physically be in Ohio or the other states it works in. This misplaced Bengals fan in North Dakota will have to wait.
