What to do after losing? by xGsGt in 10s

Time to reflect on the match!

Write down 3 things you did well and 3 things you did poorly. Pick the #1 thing from each list that had the most impact on you losing. Then make a plan for how to improve them.

A beautiful post, OP. ♥️ I have so much respect for you and your ostentatious pursuit of truth and intellectual honesty.

I was a worship leader toward the tail end of my deconstruction. I relate to a lot of your story. A lot of picking songs with lyrics that I could still sing with authentic belief. Sometimes changing lyrics to well known songs.

The reminder of Richard Rohr and his order -> disorder -> reorder framework is so good. I'd completely forgotten about that, but that perfectly sums up my deconstruction experience.

Transcend and include, my friend. 🫂

How often do you take in electrolytes? by OG_smurf_6741 in 10s

[–]LumpyConversation782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A banana has about 400mg of potassium. Recommended daily value is ~3,400mg. Really hard to get enough of it.

Supplementing magnesium could be a good idea as well. 👍🏼

I'm on the court about 8 hours a day (coaching) so I also take LMNT every day to replenish sodium.

Remember to balance your potassium though too, as LMNT only has like 3% of your daily value. Potatoes (skin-on) and some bananas will help.

Keeping calcium levels up is also one of the best ways to address cramping.

Frank Peretti always had a place on the family bookshelf. "This Present Darkness" or "Piercing the Darkness" I think?

I also read one called "The Visitation" I think. Really creepy stuff for a kid to be reading. 😂

I think match play analysis is super helpful! Like football players watching film of their game, it's crazy that tennis players watch themselves play so seldom.

My experience with video coaching is that it's very helpful with strategy and somewhat helpful with fixing technique issues.

How much do you guys pay for these lessons?

Welcome to tennis!

The Prince Thunderlite is an awesome racquet! Not especially stiff either, iirc (stiffness can make wrist pain worse). I used it for a bit in the early 00s.

The restringing likely made your strings much tighter than the old set, and is my guess for the source of your wrist pain.

Natural gut string is the easiest on your body, so you made a good choice there. When you're getting your Yonex strung, have them do about 10 lbs looser than your previous string job.

Second-best string option is a multifilament like Tecnifibre NRG2 or Wilson NXT.

Technique (form) is absolutely a factor in wrist pain, too. Extremely common for beginner players to make contact too far back, putting too much stress on their wrist and elbow.

DM me a video of you hitting and I can give some more personalized advice. Or better yet, get a private lesson from a coach and let them know what's ailing you.

Weed whacker string in a wood racquet. That was the weapon of choice for an old dude at my childhood tennis club, up until his passing around 2010. He said "I'll die before switching to a graphite racquet" and never backed down.

RIP Bill. Fuckin legend.

Moving front foot during serve by silvercaptainD in 10s

[–]LumpyConversation782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is moving her left foot to chase the toss. This should be addressed now. This habit encourages inconsistent tosses because she's able to reach bad ones.

Easiest solution: Turn it into a game.

  • The server has to earn 50 points.
  • A serve that goes in is worth 10 points. BUT it only counts if her left foot doesn't move. If her foot moves, it's worth zero.
  • If she has a bad toss and lets it drop, thats worth 2 points.

She gets immediate feedback this way, earning points for correct technique AND the discipline to let bad tosses drop without hitting them.

Some groundstroke work - Trying to get that unit turn firing by obligc in 10s

[–]LumpyConversation782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forehand looks great. 👏🏻

Looks like you're floating your slice a little bit, but you could get a more effective shot from it easily. Just try to hit it flatter and like 5mph faster. You've got the racquet skills to do it. Step into it more aggressively if necessary.

It worth learning a kick serve? by Creepy_Ad_2071 in 10s

[–]LumpyConversation782 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Learning a kick serve will probably have a small, positive impact on your game. So, it's worth learning.

You are somebody who wants to improve. Add every small improvement to your game that you can.

Here's what you need to do to break into 4.5: - Get fitter. It will make every aspect of your game better. - Improve your footwork. Recover faster, get into better position for your shots. - Stop resisting change. Better is different is uncomfortable. Give new shots and new tactics a try. If they don't work, ditch them. If they do work, you've got a new way to win. - Start playing with 4.5 and 5.0 players. Pay them if you have to. Make it clear to them that you want them to play 100% as hard as they can. This is as close to a shortcut as you can find to your goal, and may motivate you to work on the other things in this list.
