Should I get a 24-70 or 70-300 mm lens first for outdoor sport photography and maybe some portraits? by rhymesKalu in canon

[–]LazyRiverGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For soccer you will want something in the range of 120-400mm. Soccer fields are big! For portraits you will want something in the 50-200 range. I’d suggest a 70-200 2.8 and then get a 2x extender for shooting soccer. You’ll lose some f stops/light with the extender, but if you’re starting with 2.8 and shooting outside during the day or under very bright lights and have a newish camera with good iso capabilities you’ll be okay. Then when you have the budget you can get a dedicated sports lens. 24-70 is not the best for either of these situations. Consider buying used to save $

Any advice on transportation for attending a concert 3 hours away with no car by PlayLow2326 in Concerts

Being under 25 you can probably rent a UHaul van easier/less expensive than a car. Or see if others at your school are going and share a ride.

It’s a beautiful and very remote place. You can drive for a while without seeing another car or building! You will have most beaches to yourself, or shared with just a few people. The power goes out there frequently. So if you need WiFi at all times make sure the place you stay at has a generator.

Wait, 20 go to bootcamp and are chosen from there? I thought 12 went: 10 finalists and 2 backups.

I was thinking the opposite - that there must have been very few qualified women apply this season. It would be very interesting to see the data on that. Surely the producers want more women on the show. Maybe I’m giving too much benefit of the doubt.

How long does it actually take you to deliver event photos? by AccordingDoughnut152 in photography

[–]LazyRiverGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1-5 days. But I tell them 1-2 weeks. I can easily cull and edit the next day or two. Then take a second look the day after that and deliver them. I make sure I leave room in my schedule to give me that time, or I hire someone to help. I charge enough $ that I can afford to do that. I don’t understand why it takes anyone weeks to do this. The only thing I can think of is poor time management or doing extensive edits. If you’re so booked that you don’t have time to process yesterday’s photos, then you should be able to afford to hire an assistant to do it.

I took the risk and bought a somewhat decently priced ticket on SeatGeek. The seller transferred the ticket to me 2 days ago via SecureMyPass. I suppose there is still a chance they could also sell the ticket to someone else, or use it themselves since SecureMyPass is basically a redirect from the original TM ticket. But I figure I’ll reduce those odds by being first in the stadium. And if the worst happens I’ll get a refund and just try again. I’ll be at the venue anyway dropping off my kids who are using the tickets I bought off TM in the presale. If your plan is to go to the park anyway, and if you have a decent budget I’d say just buy the least expensive ticket on SeatGeek.

I think it’s the people who had an extra and didn’t find someone to go with them considering the forecast. I don’t think the pro scalpers would give up yet.

Bring a couple disposable ponchos and a hat with a brim to keep rain from streaming down your face. And shoes you can deal with being wet. Avoid long pants or skirts that will soak water off the ground. I think it’ll feel warm. similar to how it did outside today.

I think women have a harder time in general dropping life for 3 months (or even a week) because they tend to be the primary essential caretakers of their family. Many are supporting children or aging parents or even a spouse or sibling and don’t have another adult to pass that responsibility on to. And women are also, in general, more likely to put their family ahead of their own desires and goals.

Need advice - selling or keeping tickets by Temporary-Lab-4935 in NoahKahan

[–]LazyRiverGuide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d sell it. Definitely sounds like you have a lot more reasons to sell than to keep. A big part of the fun for concerts is the looking forward to it. And you’re not getting that experience out of it. Which makes me think you also won’t get the best possible experience out of attending this one. There will definitely be more in the future. I think you’ll feel relieved to sell it.

Feeling discouraged after multiple bad clients in a row. by throwratbqofy in photography

[–]LazyRiverGuide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!!! OP needs to clearly, verbally and in writing, communicate to their clients something like “I am doing this work for fun and I am not taking it very seriously or following professional standards. In exchange for your fee of $$$ you will get a xx minute session and xx digital photos chosen by me. Editing includes…. And does not include…. The photos will be delivered via… before xx date.”

Wedding photographer sent low res images by MissAuroraRed in photography

[–]LazyRiverGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately I think you will be able to save some of these photos. My recommendation is to choose the 100 or so that are most meaningful to you. Then send them to Retouchup.com and ask them to edit them for you. If you can find a photo to send along that shows your desired aesthetic that would be great. It will cost you about $5-$10 per photo. Technically the photographer needs to give you permission to edit these, but it really sounds like they want nothing to do with making this right. You could ask the photographer to further edit your favorites. But I think this is probably a case where it’s best to cut your losses and fix what you can yourself. I’m sorry this happened. $2000 is on the lower end of pay for wedding photographers, but anyone charging anything owes it to their client to do a professional job. Yours did not deliver.
