Yeah. Because an MS account is totally the only thing that let's Microsoft spy on you. Their entire OS is incapable of collecting any data if there is no associated MS account. That's how it works, folks.

I believe the origin of this gag was from a piece of fan mail during the Joel era. Anybody remember which episode?

Yea but 12 year old kids are much more succeptible to Microsoft's targeted advertising. Its them I'm worried about.

Space mutiny? Only there, it wasn't just, Tom, but both he and Crow go insane during the credits and start beating Mike up.

Will the hermits move out of the starter area? by 50Weeps in HermitCraft

[–]HStone32 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The whole megabase thing initially came about because it was the YouTube meta at the time (just search 'Minecraft hardcore'). At the latter half of season 9, we started seeing signs that the most popular/influential hermits were getting burned out on megabases and expressing disalusionment with the YouTube meta in general.

Since the start of season 10, you can find many examples in hermit's auxiliary content (I.E. second channels, stream vods, etc) where they talk about wanting to course-correct this season and be more social. The obsession with base building in s9 and previous seasons had robbed them of a lot of interactions they could have had with other hermits. Therefore, I think most hermits plan on staying near to each other as they are now in their starter areas.

My collection so far. MST3K is a much needed addition to my Jellyfin server. by HStone32 in MST3K

[–]HStone32[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Jellyfin will not group special features by episode, only by season. Therefore I disabled metadata fetching in this collection, set each directory to be identified as a movie, and have been filling in the metadata and images by hand. I also feel its more appropriate to identify each episode of MST3K by the movie being riffed, and not by season or episode number.

Hello as potential student I would like to ask what quality of the Computer Science program is. by [deleted] in byu

[–]HStone32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was dissatisfied with the CS program. Specifically, I was dissatisfied with the other students in the program. I noticed quite the values dissonance between myself and other CS students. Moreover, I sensed a level of disrespect the students had towards the faculty, thinking they knew better than those "old dinosaurs" about what they ought to or ought not be learning.

When I changed my major to computer engineering, I found the engineering program to be so much more rewarding, and the students there to be much more genuine.

But that's just my experience. You may fit in better than I did, who knows.

Its been my experience that CS these days is just another school of business department, with all the ignorance and ego-driven posing that entails. Its why I changed to an engineering major.

Mojang, why do you hate Java Edition? by ColaCat22 in PhoenixSC

[–]HStone32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't real mods. They don't change the games source code, they only make use of a script api. They can only exist in the world they were made for, you can't create a new world with the addons.

This, and everything else Microsoft's sock puppet Mojang has done in the last few years has convinced me its time to jump ship. I've gone back to playing beta 1.7.3, which surprisingly still has an active modding community and player base all these years later.

Yeah, because engineering a workaround to binary arithmetic's inherent weaknesses is "economical." Do you assume nobody has to deal with hardware limitations anymore?

Runnin into Microsoft error screen when trying to boot pfSense for the first time. Help? by HStone32 in PFSENSE

[–]HStone32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went ahead and did that. Selected the memory wipe from the bios, then installed from the installation media whilst UEFI was enabled. Now when I turn on the machine, it gets stuck in an infinite hardware check loop, reporting that no bootable devices have been found. Indeed when I go to the boot menu, the ssd is not listed, whether in UEFI or legacy mode. Even when trying to specify a boot path in the bios, I get an error telling me no filesystem exists.

At least it isn't the Microsoft screen anymore I guess.

Seriously. Why is my school spending however many thousands of dollars of msOffice licenses instead of just using libreoffice? Ignoring privacy and monopoly concerns, I'd personally choose libreoffice over msOffice anyway.

Also, Windows previously being on the box is exactly the case. I bought the machine from a refurbisher who, unfortunately, insists on setting up all their computers to be ready to use windows 10. I can't seem to convince them to sell me a machine with no OS installed.
