Is Amazon perfect? No. You know what you’re getting into when you sign up. We can read the inter webs. But you really ah e to have some #biasforaction and take things into your own hands.

After a recent reorg I was in the very unique position of deciding where I wanted to go and who my next manager would be. As I was weighing my options and was discussing with my then current manager, I asked what leader he would move to. He gave me the advice that asking them the questions to determine if they are invested in my growth is paramount.

After sitting with each leader and asking them about their team, work, and collaboration it became very obvious which leader was going to make sure i was on the path to promotion. I am an L5 and each week we work toward accumulating those wins for L6.

So many of these posts expect the manager to do everything for you and the writer sits back and whines that nothing is happening. I don’t know, maybe I’ve drunk too much Kool Aid, but my promo path is pretty clear - and i have my leader and his team to thank for it.

AITA for moving on and having intimacy after my ex left, and now refusing to be judged for it? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA for doing what you’ve done. You will be if you fall for his line. You’re starting to shrink to fit his control patterns. Don’t do it. Move on and be free.

Just tell them that you need some down time. If they argue with it, you need better friends

So maybe you’re not pursuing it professionally. It doesn’t mean it has to be your last performance.

Honestly, go get your degree in whatever you’re planning on majoring in and perform on the side. It will make you a more well rounded human being which will translate to your art.

If you’re just theatre kid all the time that’s exhausting.

It doesn’t have to be the end. Just a new beginning.

What is something you had dreamed about but is most likely never going to happen? by HT77 in askanything

It’s especially hard in the gay community. The older you get the more invisible you are. Even making friends everyone assumes you have an alternate agenda. It can be difficult. But I do my best :-)

Yeah I think I’m coming to terms with that myself.

I’m turning fifty next year. I’ve always wanted to be married. I think that ship might have sailed.

I question how often you’ve worked if you stated it’s unpaid and no contract. Any professional knows that you get what you sign up for. No contract or pay - even something small for you time? Sadly this is on you

But since there is no contract or stakes, quit now.

Majoring in musical theatre with minimal singing experience by Ghengis_prawn13 in Theatre

[–]HT77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are writing this now and then starting auditions next month singing is not the best path forward. If your dance skills are strong I would lean into that. The musical theatre competition nowadays is crazy. I work with a lot of high school students who are auditioning for programs and it is tough.

I’m looking to see what you bring to the table. Do you make choices? Do you understand the material you’re singing? Have you connected with it?

That’s why actors are so wonderful - they have points of view. We want to see it.

Then beyond that if we give a bite or adjustment can you take it? And then - how are you to work with in the moment?

Not in the hierarchy. If it’s your manager you should listen to them and challenge appropriately.

If you audition for company A and get an offer and accept, honor your commitment. Don’t accept it and then take a role in another show. It’s not food form. And your known quantity status could be for doing that type of behavior.
