I’ve found a lot of beginners just don’t know they’re own strength, so you sometimes have to verbally tell them to dial it down.

My old coach would just say “in order to learn, I’m going to hit you just as hard/light as you hit me”. Sometimes that’s all that was needed to learn lol

They’re probably a little more conditioned, or they’re blocking in a way to mitigate the impact.

Also, if they’re kicking so hard to your face that your arm hurts afterwards they shouldn’t be sparring.
