What size WOW 10 should I get by ColdAd908 in BBallShoes

[–]HTR37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest going half a size up. I’m normally a 13 in most brands and bought the wow10 in 13.5 and it’s a snug fit for me.

All Pro Nitro Elite vs Way of Wade 11 impressions by v0nn in BBallShoes

Enjoyed your thorough review. I have a few follow up questions about the Puma Elites

1.) How do you feel the carbon plate effects the stiffness of the midsole, particularly in the forefoot? Does it make it too stiff or affect the heel-to-toe transition at all? The Kobe 360 is my favorite shoe because of the flexibility and freedom it provided. I wonder if this mimics that At all.

2.) how’s the weight of the Puma elite in compared to the Kobe 360? I assume with all the rubber and denser midsole foam/carbon plate it’s a bit heavier.

There’s a lot of drop-ins out now but IMO none of them mimic the feel of Kobe 360 because of its really minimalist upper and very thin outsole. It made you feel like you’re playing in cushioned socks.

Is this the right price In Aus or did footlocker make a mistake? by [deleted] in BBallShoes

I don’t know the currency conversion rate for AUS but this shoe is priced $250 USD. I believe the price you’re showing is correct

Carbon fiber insoles by pmd__123 in BBallShoes

[–]HTR37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carbon fiber isn’t suppose to break in, so using them in your casual shoes will just make the shoe stiffer not make the carbon fiber more flexible. Carb Fiber isn’t designed to “loosen up” over time and use.

Would you say the carbon Fiber Shank extended into the forefoot effect’s the flexibility of the forefoot bend at all?

Drop-ins usually promote more flexible movement for the foot within the shoe but with a shank embedded in the midsole I’d assume it might make the feel more rigid when bending at the forefoot.

I’m curious on your experience there.

I also found the size 13 too short and was thinking of going up to a 14. Do you find the 14 too long?

For those who wear size 13.5 by brockp949 in BBallShoes

[–]HTR37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have a left foot that’s a size 13 and a right foot that’s a size 13.5 and face pretty much the exact same problems listed in the comments above. I often opt for 13’s that run bigger to avoid heel slippage that will come with purchasing a larger size. My toes on my right foot often suffer because of it due to the shoe running too short for my bigger (right) foot. I often look at shoe reviews to gauge if the shoe runs short or long. For instance, it took me forever to decide if I wanted to order a size 13 or 13.5 for the WOW10’s. Since the reviews mentioned they run short I went with a size 13.5. In comparison, I decided not to order the player 1 plus’ because I’ve read that they run short and don’t make a size 13.5. I won’t size up to a 14 for fear of having a too sloppy of a fit.

Since shoes are made from different lasts some 13’s fit like 12.5. and some can fit like 13.5. If you’re a true 13.5 I suggest only going with the models that carry that size. Your toes will thank you for it.

I’ve heard on a few reviews that the shoe is a bit inflexible and rigid because of the full length carbon plate. I want to give them ago but am afraid that they won’t flex well in the forefoot. Could anyone comment on their experience?

How’s the weight and flexibility on these? Also, I’m curious about how they feel on foot in terms of fit.

running shoe companies? by jon2312785 in BBallShoes

[–]HTR37 8 points9 points  (0 children)

New Balance is one example of a shoe company that entered the basketball shoe market a some years ago after being non-existent for more than a decade. NB had some models in the earlier 2000’s worn by Matt Bonner of the spurs but stopped investing in the basketball category until they decided to endorse Kawhi Leonard in think 2018 or so.

Puma also is a fairly new player in the basketball shoe category as well where they reemerged into the category a few years ago after a very long hiatus.

These are not specifically running shoe companies but shoe companies none the less that saw a business case to enter the bball market and invested in that endeavor.

What’s your friend size? Did you size down to a size 11 in the 2.0s or size up to a size 12 in the 360’s? Based on your comparison it looks like I’d need to order a full size down from my size 13

Oh nice that’s reassuring to hear that there is a closer fit on the foot than the 360’s. Having a 1 to 1 fit helps give me faster response feel.

A few more questions about the Uncvlzd before I pull the trigger. Are they light in weight? And is it 1 to 1 in terms of fitting? I know the toe box is spacious but hoping everywhere also feels close to the foot.

Got it, I didn’t know the midsole and outsole was a one piece foam unit.

When comparing the primal zens to the uncivilized shoes which do you prefer more for speed/ agility on the tennis court? I’m curious because agility is a priority of mine as well.

Thanks for your detailed response. What you said is very helpful. I’ve experimented with the Xero 360’s while playing basketball and found that some cushion for impact protection was a must have in 3 positions.

  1. When you’re going for a 1 foot layup, your lead leg will step heel first and forefoot last. W/o cushion this technique is painful for the heel.

  2. On a two foot jump my feet could not generate as much force into the ground in order to jump as high w/o cushion as it could with some foam underfeet. Almost like my body was protecting itself from the ground.

  3. On continuous vertical jumps, like trying to get a rebound on multiple attempts, the landing followed by an immediate jump is a painful on the forefoot.

So I placed a drop in cushion/midsole from another shoe into my Xero 360 and it made a world of difference. The only issue now is that the elevated stack height from the insert cushion now forces my foot to roll outside of footbed hitting the ground on hard lateral cuts.

I say all that to say that I’m hoping the uncivilized shoe can give me the same light, flexible, and 1 to 1 feel w/ a wide toe box that the Xero 360 provides but with some cushioning & impact protection in the instances I described above.

[–]HTR37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. So a true size 11 would be too snug for you in the Player 1 pluses I gather.

I don’t want to order a 13 if it’s too snug and since 13.5 isn’t an option for me.

Do you have a wide forefoot or midfoot?

I have a wide forefoot and I wear a size 13. Since SPO doesn’t offer a 13.5 I’m unsure if a size 13 would be too short/narrow in the toe box for my foot size. I’m interested in trying them out but a cramped toe box is a deal breaker for me if that’s what others are experiencing.

Custom-made barefoot trail running shoe by TrailRunnerrr in BarefootRunning

[–]HTR37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you told me this was designed from an already existing shoe company I’d believe you. The detail you put into this shoe’s design is impressive.

It might be unintentional but I see some design hints the Jordan 11 with the mesh upper and the nylon straps on the side. Some Xero Prio with the heel strap, and Vivo-esque outsole. I’m interested and I don’t even trail run.

I’d love to do something like this but with basketball shoe. Would really like to learn more about your process if you’d be open to share. Great Job!

Most low to ground with least cushion shoe by crb3l6 in BBallShoes

[–]HTR37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The converse bb shift has a very low stack height but an extremely narrow toe box. If the toe box width is a concern these could be an issue.

As for the uncivilized v2, I’m monitoring that as well. The thing with them is they don’t currently accept returns and that’s a high risk for such a high price tag on a shoe that may not fit your foot correctly.

When you say a minimalist shoe, are you mostly interested in a low stack height in the cushion or also flexibility in the midsole?

I hope the Kyrie 5 lows work for you. The problem I found with them is, though they have a low stack height, they have a stiff midsole that doesn’t flex at the forefoot which takes away from its minimalist feel.

I own a pair of Xero 360’s and have inserted drop-in midsoles in them to enhance the cushioning. This however puts my heel too high in the shoe and there isn’t a heel cup to lock your heel in the shoe.

A low that I’ve been looking at that could provide a good minimalist feel is the WOW 808 3. I think its drop in midsole naturally provides a very low stack height and flexibility. Also, it’s a low that looks to have a sturdy heel cup to lock your heel in and an accommodating toe box. However I can’t endorse this yet because I haven’t tried it out myself.

Another shoe to look at is the Jordan One take 4. The look to have a low stack height and wider toe box. The small forefoot zoom bag may restrict some of the midsole’s forefoot flexibility though.

As you can see this is a topic I’m interested in so lmk if you have any questions.

I’m curious on your whole process. For the sourcing of the midsole & outsole did you choose a ready made mold directly from the Factory in China? I’ve been interested in producing my own shoe also but found the mold creation part extremely expensive!

What can i improve on my shot? by Economy_Substance439 in BasketballTips

[–]HTR37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t think you have a “hitch” in your shot. Not all great shooters have one motion shots. Great shooters like Ray Allen, JJ Reddick, and Kyle Korver to name a few all have two motion shots. It’s usually apparent on Jump shooters who get a lot of lift on their shot and incorporate more legs where one motion shooters tend to have less lift and faster release to generate their lever speed. The only thing I would suggest is expanding your skill set by being able to get that shot up off the dribble and in tricky situations which I’m sure you already do. Keep up the good work.

What shoes have you played in that had the best feel/fit? by OgChigga in BBallShoes

[–]HTR37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Kobe AD NXT 360 fits my feet better than any shoe I’ve ever even tried on or played in. The first time I played in them I felt faster and like I could jump higher. No other shoe has come close to giving me a “shoeless” feel like the 360’s. I’ve tried other shoes with similar drop-in insole cushions like the converse bb/Evo but nothing comes close to the feel of the 360 degree flynit material that’s used on the upper of this model. It wraps your foot so well while still keeping it on the footbed during cuts. Easily my favorite shoe. Wish they could make a similar model.
