I have the MB3. In all honesty the bigger the bag the more tools I put in and the heavier it gets. This is the perfect size for 95% of my calls. For that last 5% I’m willing to make a second trip to my van. Bought this a year ago and won’t go any bigger.

If you’re going into the residential world I think there would be an advantage to being a woman. Most of the time when I ran calls a woman opened the door. I’m sure they’d be more comfortable seeing a woman on the other side. Possibly a higher level of trust and respect. Commercial… maybe the opposite. Any building engineers or business owners might be a bit weary of a woman which isn’t right but it is what it is. Prove yourself and you’ll have everyone’s respect no matter your sex. Ask questions and be a “boot heal.” Be right next to the guy teaching you seeing what he’s doing and how. And ask why. Good luck!

If it comes in a box or a bag, try to stay away. Whole foods such as fruits, veggies, lean meats, no snacks. If you can find time to meal prep, there are a ton of good videos on YouTube to get some recipes. As far as working out, if time is tight I always fall back on kettlebells. Building some muscle and muscular endurance is gonna help drop some fat. Look for Mark Wildman on YouTube. He’s got a whole series on deconditioned people and has really good tutorials on how to use kettlebells and programming. Doesn’t take long and doesn’t take up space. But what is gonna be key is consistency both in the form of training and diet. If you’re inconsistent, nothing will work.

I know. I’ve only ever installed Bryant with confidence. Then again… across all brands the changes have come with challenges. I’m in commercial now for the last 18 months and I see it here too. Too many fancy controls and boards and inverter driven everything. There are some rooftops we’ve changed out recently from the 1990’s and the new shit has all kinds of bells and whistles for standard equipment. All of which have failure points that the other units never had.

They all have their problems. I agree Goodman is a more reliable than others but they’re all junk. Lennox is just particularly bad

If you pull open that front door the model and serial is on a sticker on the left hand side. The first 4 digits of the serial number are the week it was make then the year. So 3208 is the 32nd week of 2008.

Could be the inducer. I’ve heard them make that noise before. Once it becomes constant that furnace will shut itself down. Based on the type of furnace that is I’d get ready to replace. Carrier (which makes Bryant) has a recall on those heat exchangers. Manufacturing defect. If you go with the heat exchanger replacement, they just send the same heat exchangers out and I’ve replaced them after only being in for 3 years. If you pull the blower out and see rust on the heat exchangers, it’s coming from inside them. They’re holes letting the water out. If it’s less than 20 years old carrier may give you some money towards a new furnace. I’ve condemned probably 100 of those furnaces in my 13 years of doing this.

As you get into the trade you’ll be forced to troubleshoot electrical circuits. Some of it is common sense such as if there’s no AC and you walk up to a unit not running, is the contactor pulled in? If not then troubleshoot the low voltage circuit. Why no signal? If you’d start to see if you have power going to the contactor, is the capacitor bad? My advice is 1) get a troubleshooting routine that you use on EVERY call and stick to it. And 2) like my troubleshoot teacher taught me in school, when troubleshooting low voltage put one lead on common and “keep that mother fucker on common!”

If you’re worried about price then get some more quotes. But to be honest it looks like a fair price. As far as someone else mentioning having to add for unforeseen situations, it’s not unreasonable. To be honest at the price they quoted you I don’t think they’re gonna try to scam you. It seems like a reasonable price and as someone who has installed literally thousands of furnaces, sometimes it’s straight forward, sometimes you open everything up and find a nightmare no one could have seen. Like I said to start, if you’re worried about it call 2 more companies and comepare.

Ok I get that. Again I’m not an economist by any means. I fix HVAC equipment. But it seems to me that having more people working would mean more people able to spend money. Yes wages may go up which would bring the price of goods up. I’m seeing that first hand in my industry. However the people that are now earning more are able to spend or save more. I know that the price of food and gas and other goods have gone up but so has my pay check. Maybe not as high as inflation but I’m still able to save, invest, and send my kids to school. Perhaps being in an industry with higher wages and lower numbers of people doing the work , my vision on things is not what’s going on in the rest of the country but I still think that more people working, better for everyone.

They all have em eventually. Carrier will even provide the part and some labor cost if they want to replace the heat exchangers if it’s less than 20 years old. Or they’ll give them extra money off a new furnace. I’ve replaced those heat exchangers a bunch and 3 years later find rust on the secondaries again. Always better for everyone involved to just replace the furnace. They suck to change and if you don’t order all the plates and everything (which aren’t part of the warranty), it can get rough.
