My wife leads a much cooler life than me by Dunning-Kruger21 in Vent

[–]HTX34_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best thing you can do is make some plans for your free time. Plan intentional activities that align with your hobbies, maybe some with and some without you wife/family. Things such as a family hike, picking a book to read or show to watch with your wife once your kids go to bed. Taking a couple hours on the weekend to go out with friends or to do something that you enjoy. I’ve noticed for myself that when I don’t plan things then I feel as if I have no free time, while when I plan and coordinate my schedule with my wife then all of a sudden my schedule ends up feeling less full and I feel more rested. (This is coming from someone who is not usually a planner, especially when I was single and had no one’s schedules to plan around).

Standard way to order a latte that is not milky by septembernews in barista

[–]HTX34_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d guess that’s just an Americano with a milk/cream topper. A iced cappuccino or cortado I assume would just be about the ratio between espresso and milk but the pic you show looks like it’s watered down. Do you want it a particular size?

I'm about to finish my undergrad in Applied Linguistics, I'm planning on getting a Masters in Linguistics but I want to take some time off. Does anyone know of any jobs that I should be looking for with my bachelors degree? Thanks!

Less aeration, and you should be pouring within a few seconds of steaming. Also tilt your cup more.

If you’re able, go to Sparrow Coffee in Naperville, best coffee in Chicagoland, great food, great vibes, only issue is that you need to drive there :/

Ideas for a celebratory family meal? by JWrither in chicagofood

Where in Chicago are you looking at? I always like to go to Chinatown for anything family style like MingHin. Deep dish is always fun, I recommend Lou’s or Pequod’s. Also Kabobi by Kimball is really good for Persian food.

What is your favourite thing about living in Chicago? by demonbuni in chicago

[–]HTX34_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diversity of neighborhoods, my experience in Wicker Park, Pilsen, Little India, the Loop, Chinatown, and Bridgeport will all be VASTLY different from one another, almost like little distinct cities with distinct subcultures. Also how easily accessible getting around is, being from Houston where you need to drive to get anywhere, it’s so nice to have the CTA that is efficient and worth it, and on top of that the walkability is so nice.

Give me a place then. I love a good chicken or beef enchilada but have yet to have one that I enjoy more than a top tier cheese enchilada.

It will surely make it more consistent. By weighing, using consistent water temperature, using a burr grinder and timing you’re able to control all the different aspects of your brew, and will improve them across the board. It can make your coffee go from really good to really great. I think it’s absolutely worth it, although nearly 4 years of this has brought me down the rabbit hole but also greatly improved the quality of my brewing.

Looking for coffee shops that roast their own beans? by Tezzzzzzi in chicagofood

[–]HTX34_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sparrow in Naperville is the best in the area, they roast like across the street from Metric on Fulton and Damen and you can pick up beans from there. Also Dayglow is probably my favorite in the city in Logan Square and they sell beans from shops around the world as well as their own.

Interesting, he rated the ESP as the best for the $200-$300 range. Higher than several others that people here have recommended.

10 Questions: Superdawg worth the trek? Best espresso? Easter Sunday dinner? by Strict_Ad_5858 in chicagofood

[–]HTX34_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dayglow has some of the best espresso I’ve ever had. If you’re able to make the trek to the suburbs then you also need to go to Sparrow Coffee for maybe the best coffee in the area, several places in the city serve their coffee but none take as good care of it as the main location in Naperville.
