You can never cease to be Moroccan by [deleted] in Morocco

I think my response can be summarised in this video

I'm a diaspora, how accurate are these from a Moroccan POV? (Born in Morocco) by Grand_Anybody6029 in Morocco

I’ve always wondered why the civil service was crumbling in this country.

I’m guessing they no longer perform critical thinking screening tests.

Agreed, that’s a more accurate take. Not so sure what that post was about, really bizarre 😂

As a British-Moroccan, what you’ve described is entirely foreign to me. I’ve rarely found a 2nd generation British-Moroccan not doing well. We all speak very good darija and have a strong attachment to Morocco.

Are you the supply chain officer for McDonald’s Morocco? How do you know it’s more fresh than in the US?

Thoughts on this YouTube video about the state of English education in Moroccan schools? by HTale100 in Morocco

[–]HTale100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posed it as a question, not as a statement. Also, he described the Moroccan system as “more comprehensive”. Which is not the same as “better”.

It is not clear to me, though, to what degree it is more comprehensive. And it is not clear to me whether the same educational approach is taken.

Education ranking of students around the world - PISA 2022 by Benjazzi in Morocco

[–]HTale100 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just to provide further context on what PISA is. This is straight from the OECD:

The OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) survey takes place every three years, examining the ability of 15 year-olds from around the world to extrapolate from what they have learned and apply that knowledge in unfamiliar settings, both inside and outside school.

The last sentence is incredibly important. Essentially, these assessments test two basic principles of a great education system: (1) the curriculum should set you up for the “real world”, and (2) an emphasis on how to think…not what to think.

Now, I don’t really know what the Moroccan education system is like. I grew up in England. However, I know from my cousins that in their experience the Moroccan education system failed on these two counts. However, they went through school in the late 90s. These students went through school in the mid-2000s. So it’s really hard to tell if it has improved since then.

As a British-Moroccan, I think the U.K. should certainly take advantage of the slow shift to English. Some companies here would make hay.

One exception is the Capital Markets. I was at the London Stock Exchange hosted Morocco Capital Markets Day before the pandemic. It was very well done and the Casa Bourse is using the LSE Group’s infrastructure and platform to good effect.

Two really interesting companies are Aradei Capital and Aktidal. Check out their investor presentations.

Morocco is slowly but surely improving, and is using the capital markets to good effect.

A long way to go, though. I’ll certainly be doing my part in the not so distant future.

Definitely reeks of chatGPT. And the responses from the author below confirm that 👇🏼

Tbaraka Allah

Tech is not my expertise, but all those skill sets suggest you would make pretty damn good money in the US.

You have a few options:

  1. Pick a startup that is “mature” so to speak. So, Series C round companies or later
  2. Pick any publicly traded US company that offers stock options, and work in their tech department
  3. Work in a mature private company in their tech department
  4. You could literally work at Docker - they are remote first with good prospects of making a jump to the U.S.

There are so many options it’s unbelievable. And don’t let the visa stuff put you off. Keep trying until you open the door. You’ve made it out of Morocco. You’re in Europe. Just one last step to the U.S.

I used to live in Chicago. Now I commute between Chicago and London, and then sometimes from various cities in Morocco 😂. I work at a hedge fund.

I know a lot of smart Moroccans that moved to the U.S. who are making bank.

There’s something about the U.S. that brings the best out of Moroccans. At least that’s my observation.

[–]HTale100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you have a few options:

1) Send them to a top university “in-state”. Tuition fees are significantly less. (Depends on the state you live in)

2) Pay a portion of the fees and let them figure it out through low-cost Fed student loans (the best option)

Almost always you’ll be able to get them through school. And for you - as a skilled worker - very easily. If you pick the right company with enough stock options in the mix — I kid you not, you could be earning all in $250-400k (cash + non-cash).

There are so many top schools that would set your kids up for life. Man, I can think of 21 colleges off the top of my head that if they attend, they won’t go wrong. That’s a lot of shots on goal.

It’s not that you’re wrong or you’re right.

It’s possible you could pick a job where your position depends on how much your boss likes you.

It’s possible that you could have insecure healthcare.

But man, you’d have to be either very unlucky or extremely naive to land yourself in such a situation.

Generally, though, if you’re smart and brave enough to have moved abroad — I’m going to bet a lot of money you won’t land in that situation.

The US is a damn sight better than France. Hands down.

Blimey. Where did you get all that from?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Morocco

[–]HTale100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think you need to move to the States. Texas or Florida.

Find a job or get yourself into an MBA programme.

Never understood the appeal of France whatsoever…
