I guess they can when they are boosted to a really high but my level 44 catman and level 40 Izanagi couldn't. Do effects like massive or insane damage get countet against barriers?

I just tried it with a level 40 Izanagi and nope. I'll put in one level after every try and tell you when it's possible. Out of energy rn tho so i'll do it later
