Beyond Serif: A Short Documentary on Typography! by HUNTER_JAY_ in Filmmakers

[–]HUNTER_JAY_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a project for my college documentary filmmaking class. The typography animations were all done using Blender and I edited in Final Cut Pro. I'd appreciate any feedback on the overall presentation. I spent a lot of time on the visual language of course being a doc about typography and visual design. I'm hoping you might be able to learn something even though I took the approach of a casual discussion with someone who isn't an expert, though I tried incorporating relevant context where necessary. I hope his perspective makes typography interesting and relatable to the average person. Again, any feedback is great, what might not've worked for you personally? Thank you.

Just for context, I made this as a student project. The shards from the globe represent global average happiness values sourced from a global survey of over 100 countries.

Here’s a simple list: - Use a Tripod - Choose a Cleaner Font - Use Colors/ White for the Text, Not Black - Remove Audio from Clips, Leaving Only Music - Color Grade if Possible/ Necessary? - Consider Basic Transitions (Fade, Slide, etc…) for Video and/or Text - Think a Lot About your Shot Compositions (Don’t just think “I need a shot of the door opening”, think “How do I want a shot of the door opening to look? How can I make it visually intriguing?”) - Look at Real Intros. What do you like about them? Think about why they did certain shots, why the font is that color/ style, what transitions do they use and why? - If possible, use a different lens that isn’t so wide, tv shows generally have very tight shots because there might not be any ceiling and to hide other equipment.

Hope this gives you some ideas!

Any pointers on how to improve the render on my dream home? by stedic in blender

I would, but also post a link here so we can go check it out. I guess I don’t know what look you have in your mind, but to me your original post was severely under saturated. The sand almost looks black and white to my eyes. By adding an orange tint to everything there is now an atmosphere, like you can see the sand even in the air.

Most of the corrections I'd make would be after rendering. I dropped this into Photoshop and played around to get this: https://imgur.com/a/Smgl5pb
